Reputation, Rank, and Rating

Post by zonaiko »

Someone was explaining reputation, rank, and rating to me, but I don't think I quite understand yet. Could someone help me out?

I was told that reputation (the percentages on the news console) are more important in SP than MP, and it isn't very permanent in MP. Is that true? What affects does reputation with different factions have on the game? And how do different contracts/actions affect each faction?

For example, I had 60-something percent reputation with the energy faction, yet I continued getting attacked by ships of their faction. Is that normal? If I increase my reputation by doing contracts for them, will they stop attacking me?

Also, what affect does player rating and rank have?

Thanks. :)

(Edit: Also, what advice would you have for reputation? Are there certain factions I should focus more on, etc.?)

Hi and welcome.

This is the Evochron Legends Guide, but most of it is the same for Mercenary as well.
http://www.starwraith.com/evochronlegen ... lguide.htm

Read that and see if that answers some of your questions.

The percent in SP does not matter as much as your reputation in a System.
For example if your reputation in SP in Thuban is hostile then you will get attacked by all factions who's percentage is below 70% and the closer you get to 100% with a faction the less that faction will be hostile to you!.
Now if you did not do any contracts or missions in a hostile system then the percentages do not mean much at the beginning when you enter that system, meaning they do not know you and you have to work to earn a good reputation. There are 4 tiers of reputations, Hostile, Moderate, Fair and Good. Now to get from a Hostile rep to a Good rep you have to go from Hostile to Moderate to Fair and then finaly to Good and you do this by doing contracts/missions for the Navy, Energy and Miners and killing all Rebels and Guilds. When the percentages for Navy, Energy and Miners all get close to 100% and Guilds and Rebels to 0% your reputation will shift to the next tier even in multiplay but in multiplay you will not see the text change from Hostile to Moderate and when you switch to SP you will see that your rep indeed has shifted to Moderate, Hope this answered your questions!....;)

The higher your rating and rank the more you get paid per contract and mission, in MP your the last to get attacked/ atract the enemies if your rank is higher then your clan mates or other players doing coop missions with you...So the higher your rating and rank the more scared the enemy is of you in coop missions in MP. Also with higher rating and ranks there are some other perks, like no mare station docking fees in hostile systems!

That is because it gets lost in the translation to binary code. You need to replace that translation/comunication chip it is getting a bit rusty!...;)

Is a reputation shift the sector wide hostile-moderate? Is there any way to tell the percents so I have a goal? Do all non law abiding factions cause system hostility to increase?

Ignore post. Doing a search found what I was asking. Global reputations can't shift in MP which explains why I've done something around 20-30 contracts with no global shift. /facepalm

 Yeah but, as it turns out, MP contracts can make a change in your faction reputation.

The "no-docking-fees" status only occurs after you've attained the civ rank of Legend; about 4.75 billicreds taken, a flock of contracts/missions, and a murder of kills later. ;)
