LAN play questions

Post by Kalthios »

Hello all,

Looking for a game to play coop with my friends at lan parties.

Usually there are four of us.

Can we all play this game together with one copy or would we need to spend $120 to play this together?

Can we play the "campaign" together? How would multiplayer work exactly?

Thank you for your replies,
Kalthios

Hello Kalthios, yes you will each need to purchase your own copy of the game. I am not sure about the campaign being done as a group but others may. Multiplayer has two servers at this time. Jump on and pilots will help you further. Welcome to the forum and hopefully the Sim. Have fun and hope to see you in "Multi-Player" sometime. :)

 You might be able to still get a good deal from Vice by "buying in bulk" ... and, if you're talking about Evochron Mercenary, yes you can combine your efforts to complete the quest. If you're talking about either Renegades or Legends, you can still get together with other players while on line ... if you can find a server (or host one yourself).

So I could host a lan game and we could all log into the world and fly about doing stuff together?

 Yup. But, if you have trouble setting up a LAN, take your buddies onto one of the two servers ... you can join up and do contracts together without much bother (if a hostile player shows up on R1, switch over to USS where such actions are illegal). You can even link up, two to a ship, if you want.

Link up, as in one person uses turrets while the other pilots?

Only problem now is the cost is just too high for me to buy it to play with my friends.

Hi and welcome Kalthios.

Yes, one is piloting and can use all his weapons, lasers, guns and missiles, while
the Gunner can use only guns and lasers.
You can jump around within a sector connected, but not use jumpgates connected.

All pilots in the same sector when a contract is accepted will be included in the contract.
All pilots will gain rank and get paid for completing it.

Also do as Marvin said and contact Vice. He might give you a discount if you want
to buy several keys.

Join MP and you will get more help than you can handle!;)

Hi and welcome

It may help your finances to know that the servers run 27/7/365 and are free :D

They are run by the generosoity of two of the players and are very reliable

Hello, Kalthios.

I am new to the game as well. I was able to get a discount by buying in bulk, and I was only getting three copies. I would definitely recommend asking Vice to see what he can offer you.

As for the multiplayer LAN, I had no problems setting up a server with my friends. And when we weren't on the same local network, setting up an internet game was pretty easy, and it only required forwarding two ports.

The main storyline missions can be completed separately or together. Some of the missions could only be completed in single player, though, and we had to hop out to single player to do them, then go back to multiplayer to continue to progress. All "dynamic" missions (the infinite ones that are randomly generated) can be completed together.

And if you do decide to join in, the people on Remula One and USS servers are very helpful if you have any questions that you'd like answered "on the fly." You and your friends are welcome to play together on either of those, and if you have questions, someone's usually around who has the answer.

Hope that helps!

All of you have been very helpful with answering my questions. I can tell that this game has a great community. It was really nice talking with you all. Now it's time to try to get four keys :)

Dear K,

The explosions are awesome!!!!! You and your gang will have a blast! There are two free servers that are on 24/7/365 run by two real nice people. I recommend you go on the Remula 1 only because it is a no rules server (you can't swear). New pilots are doomed to violate a new rule or get someone mad. then get attacked.

Ah, there you go. So that must have been the one we couldn't do together. :) I couldn't remember if it was just one or more than one.

Oh, and thanks, Kalthios.

The community here is also one of the reasons I joined. I've yet to meet anyone who isn't helpful and friendly. Doesn't seem there are any immature or blatantly mean people here. I don't think anyone here would tolerate them, anyway.

Great people here, both on the forum and in multiplayer.

(Edit: I think I used word "here" a little too much. I'd take some of them out, but then my edit wouldn't make any sense. Hmm.)

welcome Kalthios. If you need any hep setting up a LAN just send a u2u. You can always just try public multiplayer as well. It is a small and friendly community.
