Evochron Universe: Cube or infinite loop?

Post by capellamusic »

Hi everyone, I've got a question about how the whole universe in Evochron Mercenary works in terms of limits.

When I see the game universe in http://mercenary.junholt.se/ I see 4 big blocks, in which 2 are empty, 1 has an Andromeda system and the other has the "game juice".

And what I'd like to know is:

1) The universe is represented in that big square, although in 3D it will be maybe like a cube. Is it limited by that cube's edges or does it loop? What happens if I reach one of those edges?

2) Looking at the game universe I see a lot of unused space, especially the right half of the map. Is it really empty are does that space have more to explore?

I'm just curious as to how it is because I can't even cover the whole systems already present in the map, much less even more than that :P .

Thanks!

I think Maars should be able to answer that.:D

2) There are many, many, many hidden systems that don't appear on the map. Only the systems with gates appear there.

Thanks! I thought those on the map were everything there was (not that they wouldn't be enough! lol), but it's really great to know there's a lot more! I wasn't really expecting that as I didn't notice those shown on the map all had jump points. Excelent! I guess the Evochron universe just doubled or even more for me lol. :)

I hope the answer to 1) will be that the universe loops at the edges.

BTW, somewhat regarding 2, does the game allow us to build jump gates?

I hope it gets added in a future version, it would add a lot of awesomeness. :)

Borg vessels would be cool too :P . Maybe we can model the ship as a cube. Hmmm, I have to try that :P .

I believe it is a Cube, and there is only one person I know of who reached sector SX 9999, SY 9999, SZ 9999 and that is Gorf.
He should be able to answer if it loops or not. Should be intresting to know. If 9999, 9999, 9999 was the limit and it looped you should end up in -9999, -9999, -9999 Since Saphire is the Center at 0, 0, 0 relatively speaking of course....;):P:P:P:P:P

 There is "defined" space and there is "undefined" space. You get planets and stars and accurate system descriptions when exploring defined space. But, once you go beyond the very distant borders, things get really strange. Not so much a loop as a 3D Mobius strip. Or pot luck.

The real Universe sort of loops - if you travel in a straight line for long enough you get back to where you started, unless the multiverse thory is correct in which the edge of the universe is expanding faster than you can travel so you can never get there. The bit of the Universe we can see 13 or so billion light years is the limit because anything beyond that is going away at the speed of light and has a 13 billion light year head start

As far as I know (I think I read it in a thread), you can keep going outwards for ever. The edges in SeeJay's map are just a programming convenience

I thought that Remula lives at 9999, 9999, 9999 - he never seems to be anywhere else on MP :)

EDIT - technically it's 9999, 9999, 9999 :D

Since I am living on the edge, I can tell you that it does NOT loop! Once past me, there is "nothingness"!

lol, maybe we get to fluidic space where the species 8-7-something live, when we reach the edge :P . Or maybe we get to another StarWraith 3D Games universe, Fluidotron Mercenary :P . So, there are also new games to explore after we pass the edge :) .

I wonder if you go to sector 9999,9999,9999 if you would find a lonely little ship floating in space called R1? HMMMM!;)

Great Reaver 1 - good on you!

Take your time and send us a postcard when you get there. If you run out of fuel, post a distress call - there will be many who come quickly to give you fuel :P:P:P . . . . perhaps
