Anything is possible. But not by using any of the techniques I've tried: flying in formation with a Navy ship as it approaches Earth, using a deployed shield, accepting a contract that places its box inside the perimeter, flying slow, flying fast, flying unarmed ... and whistling while inadvertently flying past the barrier.
Well, that solves my dilemma..On getting another thread for this.
MMaggio has already confirmed that it can be done. There is something obvious, probably something so simple, we are probably not even considering. The clue MMaggio gave was to think outside the box. I would definitely start there.

yesterday I tried drifting in, over Antarctica very very slowly - no joy (I was hoping to freefall from when gravity kicked in)
I tried sneaking close to the rind (to see if I could drop straight down from just inside the ring - no joy
What I did find out is that I blew up at the moment switching to planetary mode was announced!

MMaggio said think outside the box...Let's see, maybe we are so fixated on landing and not concentrating on that d#@ Ring, maybe the key to this whole thing is the Ring. Has anyone fired a volley of Fulcrums at the Ring to see if it can be destroyedt?
Personally, I don't think its a question of when or where. I think its a question of understanding the way the code works. If it is true that you can land on Earth, it appears that under some circumstances, the game does not run the code that would destroy your ship when under the treshold. I suppose jumping there doesn't work, unless maybe if you docked and opened into a menu straight away.
What other ways are there to move your ship while avoiding running said code?

There doesn't seem to be any place to dock on Earth. Thinking "auto-docking" was how it was done in Legends, I went back and searched the "universedata" file in Legends for a hidden city ... and found nothing. So, if it's the same code bug (or whatever) found in Legends ... I'm at a total loss.

Since he won't give any more hints away I guess it doesn't matter!
Are we bug hunting here or is there a method hidden in the game?
Since earth defence can move between the ring and the surface, coud it be there ships? Are military ships available anywhere in the system?

Well, he said to think outside the box. In Mercenary, you could edit the universe data file, which means, in theory, you could...delete the protection ring from round Earth (leaving it defenseless).
However, we know that the vonari can blow up a planet from a distance, so the ring is really not effective against that kind of attack. HOpefully, the vonari won't find that wormhole that leads straight there... so close...

Did you buy your ship in Sol, though?
