Passengers?

Post by gloog »

Hi All

Quick query.

Evochron Mercenary

Started playing this couple days ago as I'm an old Elite fan.....!

I see that you can transport passengers but in a limited time.
I've tried this and don't know what to do at the passengers destination.
I get the clock running down but at the end I don't get paid.
I have tried 'dismissing' them aswell and same......?

What am I doing wrong?

Cheers

Hi and welcome gloog.

All you need to do is dock at the destination station/city.
The quicker you get there, the more cash you'll get.

You are probably docking at the wrong place.

Check the coords before you accept the contract and make sure you know where it is.
There is PX, PY and PZ that tells you where IN a sector. (Position).
There is SX, SY and SZ that tells you which SECTOR you're going to. (Often in another system).

You can check my map-site if that helps you (Spoiler Warning)

Have fun and hope it helps.

Image I haven't tried transporting people since Legends ... I could never make any money at it. But maybe it's worth testing out again ... to see if it could use some tweaking. To make it a viable method of doing contracts.

What I've decided to do/try is logging a sector and then start transporting if it's going to be financially viable.

Great download utility SeeJay

Funny, when you board a taxi, they charge you MORE the more time you're in transit. Something is not right here.

By the same token, the farther your passenger has to go, the cheaper the flight. If you wanted to go to Andromeda, the flight would be free. This is economically wrong.

I think the passengers should either pay a flat fee based on mileage (or kilometerage (is that what our language has come to?)) or they should pay more per time spent in transit. Of the two, I think the flat rate would be preferable and easier to implement.

So, making money in this way would therefore depend not on how fast you got there, but how many passengers you could deliver in a given time frame. It would be much better, IMHO.

That is a great Idea Nigel_Strange! And I agree you should get paid more for a longer trip and be able to take avadtage of unsuspected passengers by taking the touristic sight seeing detour via Andromeda while the meter is running....LOL....:P:P:P:P:P:P

If you make em pay like a real taxi and payment is based on time in transit people will cheat and pick up passengers and then sit there for a few hours while watching a movie, cooking dinner or go the the shop etc. so that they can collect more credits.
Better make it a flat rate indeed.

I think Vice figured the real taxi system would be exploited so he added a time limit instead. (Just a hunch though)

 To me, the "taxi contract" seems to be more of a race-to-get-there thing. But the timing is kind'a out of whack.

Tried the passenger thing once - gave it a body swerve since. Just too much work for too little money. I can sell one FT for more than any passenger fare.

 If this part of the game gets a facelift, I'd like to see it added to contracts available in the customized quest option.

As I mentioned, a flat rate would be preferable. That way, you won't be taking passengers for free or at a loss if you can't get there quickly enough.

I agree on a flat rate that is dependend on distance and should be a good reward, after all space travel is not cheap. Try to get one of those comercial flights just in orbit of Earth....LOL....;):P

Image Anybody know how to use the auto-jump part of Atollski's tracker program? To see how long it takes to do a ferry contract on autopilot. Manually, a pilot should have at least 10 to 20 percent slop in what the autopilot can manage.
