Hi all,
I've only just discovered the Evochron games and am really happy I did. I've played things like Freespace, Falcon3 and Starshatter in the past, but unfortunately Starshatter (which I thought was way cool) has sort of disappeared off the map (seems the devs have abandoned it), and is now close to unplayable because it's essentially unfinished. It seems the Evochron series can very well scratch my (space)flight sim itch.
So my question is, which evochron game would be best to start with? As I understand it there are 3 and the newer ones are evolutions of the first one. My biggest fear would be that I buy the game and find out that (like Starshatter) things are not what they seem, but I get the impression that the guy(s) behind all this is pretty solid.
I'm currently playing on a laptop with an ATI X1300 chipset, so not really a powerhouse. I suppose that influences the decision on which game to take? I haven't found the system specs for the games yet.
Any advice on where to start would be greatly appreciated.

Evochron: Mercenary is the newest of the bunch, its minimum requirements are:
Minimum:
Windows 7 / Vista / XP
2 GHz Processor
1.5 GB Available System Memory
128 MB DirectX Compatible 3D Video Card w/Shader 2.0 Support
750 MB Available Hard Disk Space
128K Internet Connection for Multiplayer
The game is basically Privateer on crack - which is awesome. There's a quest line in the game, but as near as I can tell, the game is "sand box" style. It's got single and multiplayer. A list of features can be found here:

I've no idea how powerful your system is... personally I'd recommend Mercenary if you can run it - simply because it's the newest of the bunch - I'm new here myself, though, so you might want to get some of the veterans here to answer your post and do a better job of guiding/persuading you!
Enjoy!

Hi Maledictus010, welcome to the forum. I have all 3 games Renegades, Legends and Mercenary. I enjoyed all very much.
The only thing with Renegades and Legend is like mentioned before, they are older so there is no dedicated Server running for online play anymore. But you can still host your own game with these 2 for multiplay with your friends or others that have these older 2. Mercenary has a dedicated 24/7 Server called "Remula One" which is run by a Private individual MMagio and is available to all who purchase Mercenary......

Hello Maledictus010, I play all the Sims on my old A105 Toshiba and they run OK in low selections. If you have doubt try the Demo. Welcome to the forum and the Sim. Have fun and hope to see you out there sometime.
