Game updates?

Hello. I've recently ( a couple days ago) discovered this game. I played the demo, and thought it was pretty cool. I heard about it on the Eve Online forums. Having liked the X games going back to the first one, I think I will prolly enjoy this one as well.

Im about to purchase it in a few minutes. I am wondering though, does Vice update his games? Does the game launch and then thats it? Does he make bug patches? How about updates that add new things?

I know that Evochron isnt an mmo, and so there wont be patches and patches of new stuff added. I also know that Starwraith/Vice doesnt have the team or the budget to make patches like Egosoft, where they add new stuff into the game.

But seeing that this guy has somehow pulled off making a game of this complexity and with some nice graphics, I was wondering if he pulls rabbits out of his hat and puts new things into the game as well?

Vice does release updates, free of charge, for his games. The content of those updates kinda depends, but definitely bug fixes and occasional changes/tweaks are in there. Not sure about whether or not new content will be added, but I think one of the goals for Mercenaries was to make that easier to do if he wanted.

if you look in the 'announcements' section, you'll see all the updates from EL, so that might give a good idea of how often updates show up and/or how quickly reported bugs are corrected (which is pretty dang fast)

if the previous games are anything to go by, herds of updates, and bug fixes, and PDQ too. Vice actually reads the forum, and reacts to suggestions, problems. Also, MP is free, no fees!!

I can almost guarantee new content. b ut that depends on several factors. I might also point out that the server runs 24/7 and is FREE!
All updates, no matter the complexity have always been free.
Vice listens to all suggestions from players and if the idea is sound, feasible, and popular, it will likely be done.

You won't get a better service anywhere else, at least in my opinion. Regular updates, and a developer who actually interacts with the community and listens to their suggestions. Not really something you see every day, even with indie games.

And yes Vice does pull wabbits out of his hat for us to hunt when it is wabbit hunting season which is always in Evochwon...:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P

Yes I just somehow flew into a nebula or something. I started hearing big explosions and was like "oh crap". Then I saw lighting shooting out of the nebula. All in all, pretty cool lol.

yes.. i agree that the developers have infact done a very great job on this game

i player a number of space sim before, like Freelancer, X3, X2... etc... and even Microsoft Space Simulator... HAAHA !!

but i say this is a epic game from all the game i seen... however, if we "pilots" can walk out of the spacecraft and walk around planets on foot.. that would even be better !

LOL Vader how many times in MS Flight simulator did you try to fly to space? I tried quite a few times. Without slew I couldn't quite make it. *shakes fist*

By the way just FYI. Unless I'm mistaken I'm pretty sure the only developer IS Vice. So its pretty impressive stuff for a one man team.

Yea its crazy. How does 1 dude make all this, and it takes game companies many many people and buttloads of money? And to think they said the days of 1-2 dudes making a game in thier garage were over.....

LOL....I do not think Vice makes his games in a garage.....I think he does it in his own private Docking Bay Hangar.......:P:P:P:P

Do the updates install them self in backgroud when the "Check for updates" box is tagged, or do I have to dowload and install manually?

It will inform you when an update is available and you'll have the option to close the game and go to the downloads section of the website (selecting a mirror and installing manually) or not update and continue to play with the current build.
