Ok I need some advice. I'm doing an IMG mission with let's just say a lot of fighters in single player. Basically the only way I can foresee doing it without dying is with excals (Otherwise I'd run out of missiles far too quickly) and like 8 fleet mates. The problem is I've been flying around in circles over and over on the second waypoint avoiding getting killed because basically there are so many fights I cannot fly in amongst them. I'm out of flares I'm slowly running out of fuel and my fleet is all but useless. I'm basically feeling like I'm running out of options. I'm tempted to jump back to the station to refuel and maybe get some more missiles but I'm not sure if that will abort the mission or not.
Worst part is I don't wanna hop into multiplayer and ask for help because at this point doing that would mean they're doing all the work for me because I am shocking in a fight on this game. I want to do the quest but I'm finding that I'm in over my head. Even with plenty of fleet members I'm still in over my head. At this point I'm on the second waypoint and I feel like my fleet is useless they're not doing anything but chasing the enemy around. They haven't killed anything for like 20 minutes now.
Ok I've found that I can go back to the station but I've got a problem. Now that I know I can go back to the station I want to unequip my excals for more conventional exodus's but it won't let me unequip OR sell the excal's it's not giving me the option. I try to unequip it and it tells me it requires 8 hardpoints if I try to sell it... it does nothing.
I'm kinda stuck here. It's gonna take a very long time to kill all these buggers with excal's taking as long as they do to reload... on the up side though I'm on waypoint 3 so I can just keep kiting them. It's just gonna take forever.

Good news on the reload option, you can jump back to the station and reload your missiles without losing the contract. It will only be considered abandoned if you leave the sector. Plus, the game will leave a blue box marker on the nav map to help you find your way back.

Just edited my post... I think I might be experiencing a bug in the "not being able to unequip the excals" If I had known I could go back to the station I wouldn't have bothered using them anyway. I'd just keep reloading
By the way that's awesome!
I was stuck thinking that I couldn't go too far from the waypoint/enemies or I'd fail so I was limited on my weapons.

Ok for some odd reason after like the 5th time trying it finally let me sell my excal so I can actually kill some.
A bit hard though when I jump back to the station I get pounded. But oh well lol.

Your excals must regenerate before you sell them. Make sure they aren't recharging, else you won't be able to unequip or sell them.
Don't forget to order your wingmen to attack the enemy fighters. And keep in mind that they can run out of fuel and missiles too, so be sure to get them to a station or city and order them to rearm/refuel, or else they won't be much of a fight in a battle.
And learn to fight with your primary weapons
You'll be thankful you did, in the long run--I assure you.

I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. As far as telling my fleet to attack. I have been doing that. As far as getting them fuel I've been doing that. As far as fighting with my guns... that's a bit more tricky. As I've said I suck at combat. And from what I've been noticing everytime I fly into the swarm of enemies to do a strafe on a single target I end up taking several hits from gunfire AND I basically have to be launching constant CM's to keep from being blown up by missiles. It's not fun. Easier to just sit back at range and launch missiles.
Edit: I do really want to get better at combat but I get so annoyed at how much damage I seem to take perhaps partially because I have a real hard time dodging hits and dealing with missiles.
On that note I've been meaning to ask Vice. Do NPC's have unlimited missiles? (IE the ones you're fighting not your fleet members) Cause it seems like I can fight a group of npc's for 20 minutes and they'll still have missiles to shoot at me.

Hahahahahaha I have to put this on a new post because it's just too funny. I got back from town with my game still up mid-mission and I died so I basically said screw it. I loaded up 4 fulcrum torpedo's and cleared each waypoint one torpedo at a time. Blowing up all the little bastards in one fell swoop. I think Fulcrums are my new weapon of choice for those "too many enemies to handle" missions.
