Hello Vice (or whoever can help...)
I just got a job (finally) and will be on the road a lot, so I went and bought a refurbished laptop:
Dell Latitude D520
Intel Core Duo T2300 1.6 Ghz True Dual Core CPU
2GB DDR ll Ram
I know it's not the best, but it's what I could afford...
I've loaded the game (Evochron Mercenary) and it does play - but need to know what the best settings would be...
Thanx for any help!!!

If you want to maximize EM game play with your current set-up first lower all your graphic settings in the options portion of the game. Do not use Optimum on the first line list your graphic setting and if you can go a little lower in resolution you should see an improvement in FPS.
Very last setting use Optimum no V/sync.
Also in game Options: Download the planetary rendering procedure. Use the non-3D cockpit set-up.
When you can afford it buy 2 GB extra ram you will see a big boost in PC performance . See if your laptop has a graphics card slot and buy one (if possible). If you do not have a graphics card slot then buy 4GB of PC-6400 ram this will guarantee a 1066 FSB.
Since it a laptop by a laptop cooling pad that your laptop can sit on ($12.00 on the internet). An unnamed good pilot plays on a laptop and he recommends it. Download a free copy of Game booster which shuts down unnecessary background programs when you are playing.
You did not say which version of Windows you are using.
Get rid of your anti-virus program and download Microsoft Essentials Anti-Virus (its Free).
Download the latest drivers on your PC.
Use Windows joystick drivers not the manufacturers drivers (removes more background load).
I play this game on a 7 year old AMD 2.0 PC so our system specs aren't that much different and have a blast and average over 35 FPS or higher.
Write down what is your FPS now. Try my simple recommendations (that cost you no money) and write down what your FPS is now. All of my instructions are all reversible so if it doesn't help, you can always go back.
There some really good more knowledgeable people on the game who will give you more and better tips, I hope I helped.

Although the system is below the minimum requirements, it may still run, although somewhat slowly. Turning off the 3D cockpit and keeping the detail settings at Medium or lower should help maximize performance.
