Couple newbie questions
Can you fly from one system to another without going through jump gates? For example, can you fly from Sapphire to Atlas without going through Olympus - Onyx -Cereulean?
I have not tried it yet because I thought it may be possible but would take a long time so I thought I'd ask. Is it as simple as putting in a coordinate and ramping up the speed or engaging Autopilot?

Cool
I haven't even been to half the Evoverse. I mostly stayed around Sapphire / Atlas. This is going to be fun.

... or also at SeeJay's website. According to Atoll's signature block, the Beta for a newer version was finalized into v1.0 ... but I'm not sure all the bugs were ironed out. In any case, I can't find my Beta copy ... so I'm back to using the v0.8 version. Which works fine for finding new planets.

Couple newbie questions
I did it this morning. It took a while which opened up a few more questions.
If I put power in Inertial mode and ramp up the speed to anything above 1500 mps, then put it in AutoPilot, after the jump it always goes back to ~1033 mps. Is there a way to increase that speed between jumps?
My weapons officer must have read up on the manuals because his skill level went from ~85 to 94. A good thing.
off topic but ... is there a way to move the Nav Screen closer to the edge (same for Inventory)? I have a small but wide screen and I have room to move it to the edge and have the center of screen clear.
Last comment ... I barely made it. I loaded up with 2400 "gallons" of petrol and when I got to Galacia (? - the edge of Sapphire system) I only had 60 units left. I was getting nervous I had sat through all that time to run out of gas. Also, I did not see any systems between there an Atlas. I have the excel spreadsheet with the whole system and I'm sure there are but I was just interested in getting across the great divide.
I was in a Mammoth with the class 9 engine. I changed from a 10 to a 9 before leaving Atlas. I may have ran out if I hadn't.
thanks for the suggestion ... I will look into that.

Couple newbie questions
and yet another question.
Is there a way to load missiles from cargo to secondary weapon hardpoints while not docked ?
... some secret keystroke combination maybe ... I just tried again and right clicking does not work.
... seems like if I could find a nice quiet place, my weapons officer could move missiles from cargo to a usable mount.
thanks

Sorry but you have to dock to transfer things from cargo. Consider the cargo compartment as being separated from other areas of the ship by vacuum and we don't have space suits.

Dang ... I was hoping I could stop (drop my speed to 0) and have the weapons officer do an EVA and mount some more munitions.
Well, I just had to ask.
Thanks and have a nice day

Couple newbie questions
This is an observation and question.
I noticed when I have missiles coming at me, it appears I can shoot them down. Is that possible?
In a panic during a skirmish, i did not hit the "C" key to deploy CMs but was able to turn, airm and fire on the missile and it blew up. After a few of these panic situations I tried it deliberately and it appeared to work (numerous times).
In many of those situations I was able to launch CMs so I could not tell if it was the CMs or me shooting them down.
How do you fight 6 or more enemy? I can't carry a dozen or two missiles. SO I guess you have to run away and strike at the periphery of the fur ball.
help is appreciated

Yes you can shoot the missiles down with particle gun.
Use CM's when the missile is close for best effect. Fly in inertia mode.
Circle the group and try to get one in guns range at a time.
Use movement in the Y-axis is very effective as well.
Videos of fighting is on my site as well.
Good luck!

Couple newbie questions
I got this from the Legends guide:
"... You generally receive about one point of rank credit for every 10 hostile ships you destroy, one for every contract you successfully complete, one for every 500K of credits you acquire, then further adjustments are made based on other wealth factors and the ship you are currently flying. ..."
Does this still apply to Merc?
I'm trying to maximize how I increase my rank and I found this. I'm at work and did not look in the Merc guide (its probably there but I can't get to it here).
It appears contracts and money are what gets you're rank to rise fastest. Kills are expensive due to missile costs and I am not good enough at gun fighting yet to not use some missiles to destroy ships. Contracts appear to be best to raise your rank since you can get three bangs for your time if enemy ships are involved ... kills, contracts, plus the money you make.
Am I right in my thinking here?

You hit a brain cell. Can a pilot in a civilian ship increase military rank with kills or contracts in a war zone?
or: Does a civie in a civilian ship benefit any better in a war zone vs outside a war zone?
I rarely go there.
Thanks many times over ... once again.

It doesn't matter what kind of ship you're flying. As long as you're making kills in a war zone, it'll count towards your overall rank.

Any contract in a warzone will count as a MIL contract for your ranks!

Couple newbie questions
Apparently war zones are the place to be. I drove my big slow Lev into the Talison WZ, did a couple of contracts and made Ensign in one night of fun. Heck, I've been flying that Ferret for a dozen missions, getting my butt kicked and I'm still a trainee.
I'll be spending time in war zones from now on. I read the Talsison WZ is one of the easier ones ... I spend lots of time in Pearl so I'm going to try the WZ near it next.
thanks for the help gentlemen

Couple newbie questions
I've been flying military ships quite a bit lately. My rank has gone up so I'm now up to the Shadow (the one after Aries - I think that's it).
I looked and can't find a mod for military craft like the "Hi Res Civilian Ship" mod I've been using. Is there one out there somewhere?
Also, does anyone know if the next expansion will allow us to move our current pilots over? I hope so, its taken me a long time to get my rank.
Even if not, it shouldn't take me as long since I now know how to fly and fight fairly well.
have a nice day
