While all that stuff was going on the radar was on the fritz and my weapons were making high-pitched empty ketchup bottle sounds or something. That just added to the "OMG WTF IS GOING ON?!?!?! TOO MANY RED LIGHTS AND ALARMS! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!" factor.

I think I never saw it before because I was using a lighter frame until then. Now I have a Starmaster, so I guess the heavy armor allowed me to live long enough without shields to notice my sub-systems going haywire.

I REALLY wish I could have seen myself from the Vonari perspective though. I was bouncing between two capital ships getting shot to pieces and I suspect it looked very much like an old school game of Pong. Except I was the flaming Pong ball screaming obscenities and crying for my mommy! Lol! :D

Pong... an oldie but a goodie. :)

Lol, Bravehart! If you do ever get a screen cap of me in that type of situation, can you edit in little text bubbles coming from my ship that say things like "#^&$%!@!!!" and "NO! NOOOOOO!!!!! AHHHHH!" Would reflect well on the reality of my reactions lol! (I get REALLY into games, haha!)

Well, I feel like I've worn out this thread. Was just supposed to be an intro thread with some questions. Turned into an outlet for my raving panic and dismay at being blown up. :)

However, before I move on to bigger and better threads, I do have one more question for anyone willing to answer.

Last night I decided to try to make a new ship specifically for combat. I stored my current ship in a hangar. I then built a new one. When I tried to transfer equipment between the two, I noticed I was missing my Mantis drive. I have no idea what happened to it! Then when i was trying to move stuff back and forth between the two, I noticed that some of the equipment transferred to the new ship on its own, but not the stuff I wanted. So then I put that stuff into storage, tried to transfer it BACK to the original ship, but the noticed somewhere along the way that I was missing even more equipment! I'm really confused! I have no idea what was going on. I'm most upset at losing the Mantis drive. It took forever to find it and it wasn't cheap. So now I have tons of missing equipment, and now idea how it happened. Can anyone explain to me what did happen? Also, can anyone tell me how to avoid that in the future? How do you go about creating a second ship without losing equipment and transferring equipment between the two?

As far as excals go, well there's benefits and drawbacks to just about everything in this game. At the moment, I'd prefer to have 8 missiles that I can fire individually at whatever I want, whenever I want. Though, the excals do tend to put my mind (and bank account) at ease since they pay for themselves after awhile. Like BraveHart says, they're also good when you travel deep into enemy territory. Like I did recently. Except even the excals couldn't make up for my error...

See, I was exploring in a warzone and got bored so I decided to take one of those sweet-looking, high pay contracts in the warzone. So when I jump in there's a Vonari battleship with at least 14 fighters escorting it. I was prepared for that by the contract description. What I wasn't prepared for was warping INTO a friendly cruiser, bouncing off of it, getting swarmed by enemy fighters, getting hit with flak from the Vonari ship, bouncing OFF the vonari cap ship while trying to flee in panic, having 6-8 different missile alarms blaring at the same time with their accompanying range indicators cluttering my screen, and finally going "BOOM!" That all happened in about 30 seconds...

When all was said and done, my throat was raw from screaming, my keyboard somehow managed to fall to the floor, and I was left holding my breath while I held my head in both hands. :(

that doesn't really have much to do with what we were talking about, but I figured I'd share my first experience with large-ish scale combat with all of you. :D
Thanks for that description mate, gave me a good laugh.

Welcome to the game and the sim - laugh a minute, ain't it? :)

Vaenn, the first lesson is to ALWAYS create a back up (we have 100 spots now) of the Pilot profile before you do anything. Then when things go wrong (and they may) you have some recourse.:o:(:mad:;)

@Ravenfeeder
No, problem! Glad to provide laughs. :)

@thetiebers
Wait, slots? As in save slots? Where are they at? I didn't know there were actual save slots. I always just hit ESC and the "quicksave" button. Craaaaaap.... :o

Edit: Nevermind, I found the save slots... HOW COULD I HAVE MISSED THAT?! I'm usually meticulous with saves, too! Ugh...

Oh well. Maybe it's for the best. I think I'm just going to start over. I made two profiles. One with "Vaenn" as the name, and another to just fool around with. The one I was fooling around with turned out to be better so I stuck with it. Now I can start over with the name I want so when I get into MP I'll have a name I like and the same name I use on the forum. :)

Shouldn't take me long to build up again now that I know what I'm doing. I even wrote down the coords of the few hidden crates I found and he one hidden planet I found, so making money should be easy.

Oh well, lesson learned. :D

You can rename the Pilot profile you have now at anytime. That option is on the same page as the pilot profiles. Good flying to U.:)

Yeah, I just found that option, too. It appears I still have much to learn, yet.

Been spending so much time trying to learn to fly, fight, trade, and explore, that I overlooked basic menu options! :D

Alright folks, thank you for all the help! Now, let's let this noob thread die. :)

I'll see you elsewhere on the forums and, hopefully, I'll soon be seeing you "out there" as well. ;)

Oh, and if any of you see any flaming Pong balls out there, take a screen cap. It's probably me! :D

Can't wait to fly with you out there Vaenn. You're hilarious!

If you are going to change your callsign, I suggest "Pong" since you will get easy kills out there because all of us will be laughing (including Vonari's) and be easy targets when we're rolling on the floor ....:P

I'm not making fun of you mate, I just think you're a sport that share that "burning" moment with us all.;)
