I can haz Saitek X52! Programming help please.

This is by far the most complex joystick I have ever owned and I did not realize I would need a programming tool to make it go.

To anyone who uses the stick for Mercenary, please get in touch to provide tips on programming it.

Most functions can be set in the Mercenary stick set up section and more when you open the keyboard control set up as you can set the buttons and tabs for what you like there as the secondary control. I have found it difficult to use the program that came with the x52 for setting mode 1 2 and 3 but others may be able to explain that.

I tried using it as-is. I am curious to know which buttons and such people use to do which functions, etc. And how to get the various buttons to do more involved stuff, like using more than one firing mode, having one item do the job of the house (which it says it can do but is not doing now, etc.)

Mostly I programed the buttons that are easyest to hit .....with the most important functions.

OK I have messed with the programming a bit - can someone tell me how to make the little mouse pointer thing on the throttle work so I can do things like click on the top menus without having to use a mouse instead of the stick-and-throttle?

Also, the throttle has a three stage thing, idle, normal throttle range, afterburner - but I can't figure out how to program that in the configuration utility.

Hi Drewbicus,

You can assign your throttle axis using the "afterburner" option in Mercenary's joystick configure menu... this allows you to use the last portion of the throttle as an afterburner control. Personally I found this not to be accurate enough.. ie I couldn't reach my max cruising speed without kicking in the afterburner, so I used the Saitek software to assign the last 10% or so of the throttle to afterburner. It's quite complicated getting the balance right so that you can reach max speed before afterburner kicks in. In the Saitek config you can assign "bands" to the throttle axis then to each band you assign the velocity key-presses, ranging from keys 1-9 with 0 as max and backspace as 0 speed. Then the last band you assign as the afterburner.

The way you configure your controller is a personal thing I think but I'll anyway send you my profile and you can see what you think.

Old "in " joke when MuchTalk felt that I was a rubbish pilot and no matter what stick I used it would make no difference, so the expensive X52 was about as good as a paperweight and also my "mood" on my avatar

He is of course entitled to his opinion, even though it's wrong!

Hi all,
By any chance any of u can send me the settings too (via U2U), I ordered the X52 as of today, getting it in a couple of days. I never used joystick before I always used keyboards for games. This game is awesome but I want to enjoy it fully if I have the proper config or at least some good info how to start it. Thx a bunch ppl.

Here's mine. Most buttons are "fallback" which means they use the standard stick button and are configured through the game. This one has my afterburner latched, which seems to be working out better for me (and my thumb). I have the hat switch setting (in the controls setup) set to strafe.

I have the basic X52 buttons configured as such:
A - Select Target - reticle
B - Weapon Mode
C - IDS
D - Afterburner
E - CM
i - Reverse AB
i axis - Energy Level

Also, I have the trigger setup so it fires beams at first trigger, and cannons on second. To set them up in the controls setup, you will have to setup the 2nd trigger as fire cannon's (F6) first (because you have to depress it to set it and you always fire trigger1 and then trigger 2 as you hit the second position on the trigger) then setup fire beams (F5) as trigger 1.

The T6 toggle brings up NAV, T5 jumps.

Still tweaking, but this seem to be working out well without any major combo clashes.

Thanks guys for the info. Iâ€™m sure I will be able to use them. Now I just need to sit tight and wait for the x52 arrival. The word on the street is that has been shipped, yeah. Until than I will just die million times in combat when using the keyboard, heheâ€¦

Bit late but if the x52 can use the profiles from x52 pro profiles now* then you can download my setup here:

Even if the controls don't suit you all the functions are listed and names so you just have to change them around, which is very easy when you get use to the profiler software.

*I would've posted earlier but I thought x52 profiles were .dat and x52 were .pro but according to that thread Maarschalk posted they're the same now(I think).

Yes, they are the same now. They used to be .dat files but with the newer software version they changed to .pro...
