hi dave, it was fun going on some of the IMG missions with you. Keep in mind that the IMG is a sort of tutorial that is supposed to gradually introduce you to as many facets of the game as possible, which is why there is a good deal of combat. After the IMG it is up to every player to find out what they like best and have fun with that. So if you enjoy mining, for example, there is nothing stopping you from doing that,a nd attaining your own goals.

It was good fun flying with you on that IMG contract this evening. I think there are a lot of possibilities for a mining career in this game, with different equipment and resources available. I'm more of an explorer myself but it's good fun to do a bit of combat with other players.
The default Quest gives you a general feeling for things that can be done in the game. Luckily, any number of custom quests can also be written and played. And done without compromising any of the "secret" things within the Mercenary universe. So, stick with the game and keep one eye on the galactic horizon. 'Cause, who knows what quests lurk out there ... possibly in the direction of Andromeda.
