Hey Guys, I checked on some other posts but still feel a little confused so I'm hoping the community can help a bit.
If I'm getting directions from my science officer
Heading 179
Pitch -2
How do i actually locate the Containers?

Since this ussualy happens when you come out of a jump at high speed it will be difficult to locate on the first try. The best way I found was to put my heading and pitch to 179 and -2 and vissualy picture a vector to the location with some reference points and then I jump out the sector and back in at a different location and angle and see what the sience officer gives me for pitch and heading I turn again to the new pitch and heading and picture another vector in the direction of the first vector and visualize their intersection and if the intersection is clear to me on the first two jumps I fly to the intersection and if I'm not sure I jump a third time and then triangulate the intersection of 3 vectors....Some one else posted a math formula once to calculate the location using the different pitch and headings of each jump and your location coordinates.....hope this helps..

Head in those directions and watch for the containers to show up. It you get off track you can jump out of the sector and then jump back in and you should receive a new heading to follow. Good luck.

Heh thanks!
I found a spreadsheet a few posts back searching the forums and here is what I have been doing.
I make a jump with the nav screen open and the second I'm out of jump I take a screen shot.
I do this 2 times and record the information (XYZ and heading and pitch)
Try the excel sheet but i never find the container.
I have been trying to find this thing for about 2 hours now, Also I'll try so go to that heading and pitch as soon as i get the destination but just cant seem to find it. Ugh, frustrating.

Also make sure you do not fly to fast the first couple of times till you get the hang of it. If you go to fast you might miss it and not see it because it might be showing its darkside or is on the darkside of a planet and hard to see. So fly slow and look for anything dark that moves over the background stars. Also look for a purple blip on your radar and fly towards it as soon as it shows up on your radar when you get close to the containers location.......

Good to know. So am I wrong to assume I'm looking for a cargo container?
About how far do you have to be for it to show up? Also do I need only a science officer?

Cool, I found them, it was the purple dot thing I was missing. Is there a way to equip stuff from your cargo?

You cannot transfer items from your cargo bay to ship hardpoints while in space. You must dock and transfer then. Right clicking does the job.

Glad you found it. And you can only mount and dismount equipment while docked at City or Station....Originally posted by wmuschetto

Welcome!
Is the excel sheet working for you?
Yes, it's important to look for the purple dot on your radar! I might have forgotten to mention that >.<
I never thought to do a print screen when coming out of a jump...that would make things a touch easier!
Also, keep in mind when looking for containers that the more skilled your science officer is the more accurate his reports will be. Also, if you can stand having a navigator on board, he will greatly increase your sensor's range when it comes to finding the containers after jumping to their "theoretical" coordinates.
See you on MP sometime!

Yep, that is bassicaly all your Navigator is good for and also sometimes to help you avoid jumping right through a planet with catastrophic concequences.....but even though they are capable of making your ship jump right into a City's docking bay they refuse to do so when given an order to do so to save your skin. They give you the excuse that it is against CAADP (City Aproach and Docking Protocol)....So I send my Navigator out the Airlock for refusing to Obey the Order and I do the City jump docking myself now...LOL...

The excel sheet is working great! One trick I use is warp in come to a full stop and i found that when I hit Ctrl+Q to auto save it shows me the heading. Then I warp a few sectors away and do the same thing. Most of the time I'll get another set of directions. then plug in the number in the excel sheet and BAM there I am.
Is anyone else using a Merc Stealth keyboard? I have a pretty good layout set up in case anyone wants to check it out. It sure made me a lot more deadly in dog fighting.
Also, How do you warp right to a city? I tried it but ended up in a worse scene then 2 girls one cup

LOL...The City dock technique takes a lot of practice but you will have to get rid of your navigator first. Second you need to save the coordinates of the city docks in your Nav Map Log File from every city you visit cause you will need them to plot your jump point as close to the docking pad as you can on your next visit. And third it is easiest to try it first while docked at a station facing the central pillar of the station and try different angles facing the central pillar. After you figure out the math you can try it from open space.....Good luck....

in regards to jumping straight to a planet.....
evidence it can be done ( iirc this was the first proof that it was possible)
http://starwraith.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4144&page=1
Firstly try jumping into and out of a cave asteroid ( you'll find one in sapphire ), it'll give you some of the rough statistics ( distances, heading etc ), you can then apply this to certain carriers / stations.
This link here also provides a run through...........
http://starwraith.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4600&page=1
This should give you enough information to jump to a city in sapphire, though you may need to tweak the numbers depending on circumstances, and I recommend it in one of the larger frames.
