New pilot starting out in multiplayer, seeking advice

Post by St1r »

Hey everyone, new guy here. :)
I'm your run of the mill England born stoner/space game fanatic hybrid, I loved freelancer, starwolves, xwing, rogue squadron (and more I forget) back in the day n I play a lot of Star Conflict at the mo. SCon is a fun space dog fighting game however it lacks the depth that I've found Evochron has.

I'd like to spend more time playing Evochron, from what I've played so far on single player it is very entertaining! However in order to keep it interesting I believe its time to jump into multiplayer! So I'm looking forward to meeting the vets and hopefully some newbies on par with me that I can fleet up with!

First off I have a few queries regarding multiplayer, servers & playerbase n what clan/corp that I should know of, I'll also put in a little description of the type of corp I'm looking for in case if any corp is looking for new members. :)

Is the multiplayer on Mercenary active? Enough so that I might find players to do activities with? If not we could build a bunk bed to make extra room for activities! (film reference :p)

If so, which servers are most prominent and is it possible to switch server to server or better to stay put on one?
Do some servers have roleplaying or different rules?

I've had a look at some of the corp's forum topics, it seems that all aspects of space voyage n pillaging are covered, but just to clarify are there any particular corps that I should look out for?

The type of corp that I would really like to join would be one that behaves like a band of mercenaries, perhaps one that other trading/merchant corps call upon for escorts. In their own time the corp explores, goes on missions, trains, arranges raids on enemy territory or general pve and pvp encounters. I hope to play with friendly like-minded people that will help me get started and established with on my voyage into space! I have my eye on a couple, but would appreciate recommendations!

I'm currently in, I believe, a marriage with custom beam/part. In and around my current system I seem to be on par with the pve bad guys.
I've killed some pve starmasters so I figured that perhaps lower tier ships can stand up to higher tier ships, particularly in a squad meaning that I should jump into multiplayer asap. Please correct me if I'm wrong!
I have TS3, mic, all the necessities - looking at getting a stick at some point too. (recommendations?)

I'm looking to get involved asap. Thank you for your time reading this!
In the mean time I'll be finishing off my I.M.G missions, hope to see you amongst the stars soon boys n gals!

Peace.

 The Galactica 1 server is run by a fellow Brit. The best time to log on is around 8:00 or 9:00 p.m. on Sundays, your time. You should then find one or two [IM] pilots working to maintain their (our) territory. We enjoy helping others when they ask ... and most often enjoy helping new pilots who are attempting to complete one or more of the quests.

;) Just ask (when on line, press the Enter key to open a chat window).

Hi St1r - welcome!

There are a few UK players and several in France, Germany and at least one in Sweden. The Russians have(had?) a big presence in the past - not sure now. Galactica 1 is a good server - low ping and fast response of UK players.

US player tend to start playing around bedtime for us - and vice versa. Servers can be a bit quiet Europe daytime because the US is asleep and we're at work/school

When you get into the multiplayer screen, selecting a server with a right mouse click lets you see who is online on that server. Beware ProGames Australia - it's members only and you can only exit the screen back to the main menu so you have to drill back into the multiplayer server screen again.

mid/late evening UK time is a good MP time - US are on and insomniac Europeans are still around!

Get onto MP - it's the best way to get help, advice, learn. The community is friendly - you can fight if you want but will be left in peace if you don't.

Hope to see you on MP soon.

:)

Hi and welcome.

In my sig there are a few links to sites that might help you out a bit if you need it.

Clan HB is not very active at the moment due to RL activities but if you see us online, we are more than happy to help you out.
You'll find quests on those sites as well and the newest (biggest) one is called "Over the Hill" and was created by me and a few
other pilots. If you finish that one you have become one bad ass pilot;) (Sorry for my english).

As Dave said, I'm the swede around here LOL!

The one clan to look out for is BA.
They have a habbit of welcoming new players with a kill. One kill only!
They always warn first and tell you to save.
Several Vets will run in and try to protect you if we are around. Great fun it is!
BA will also help you out with anything if you need help.

Welcome aboard and I'll see ya out there.

I'm using a X52 Stick/Throttle and it works great with this game.

I humbly apologise! ;)

I wonder how many European countries (not EU only) are represented in the Evoverse - come on people, stand up and be counted :P

Hey everyone, thanks for the warm welcome and the advice! It's well received. :)I'll be choosing Galactica 1 then. I'm a bit of an insomniac so the times work for me.
Feel free to add me in game if anyone wants another player to team up with. I learn by doing so I'll be happy to tag along with whatever's happening.

 Maybe we will see you on line tomorrow (Sunday) ... assuming Starbuck plugs his server back into an operational outlet.
