Walkers on astro

Post by airassassin »

I'm making this topic because I would like to be able to use my walker in caves and astros.
Also it would be great if we can see our cargo bay from our walkers.
On top of that, it would be great if we can mod our walker. Like it would be great if we can mod the beam. ( I just recently picked up this game again, so sorry if this stuff is already on here)

BTW, you did a great job on these updates Vice.

If you use your walker in a cave, where would you walk? not a lot of gravity in there.

I think it would be more interesting to explore a cave that way.

but it's physically impossible. you have gravity coming from all around, so you wouldn't be able to stay on the surface.

Actually, everything with mass has it's own gravity. The more mass that's in a given area, the more gravity there is. I learned about this when I was getting my aerospace degree.

Anyways, because there is no real way to say how much gravity any give cave may give off, we can say the caves and astros have a lot of iron in this. (as far as astros go, this is nearly 100% true in real life) So the walker can have some magnetic feet or something to keep it attach to the surface.

You would be able to walk upside down on the walls of the cave!. But then what is up and what is down in Space?......;):P:cool:

would be cool if you could walk on any surface in the cave, then meet people walking on the ceiling.

 Then walk across the entrance and out onto the rim. Over the top and explore the outside surface of the asteroid.

Did anyone ever play Heavy Gear 2? There were a few missions that took place on the outsides of space stations and inside an asteroid. The robots did have magnetic feet as mentioned above and a thruster pack that gave them directional control if they jumped off the surface. They didn't have it always built in though, you had to sacrifice equipment space to put it on. Could be an interesting addition if Vice ever gives the walkers equipment slots.

I have, quite possibly one of the best non mechwarrior games I ever played on pc, I think missile slots will be implemented soon.

It might be possible on an airless moon, but on an asteroid? What if the asteroid is made of non-ferrous materials? Magnetic soles in the walker's feet wouldn't keep the walker in place.

I think the point is moot though. As said before, the coding would be a nightmare. It would probably be a pain to do it on moons without air as well.

I played Heavy Gear 1 and 2. I thought it had great potential. The skates were fun too. I moved on to MW (all versions) but always hoped HG would have a comeback. Sorry I digressed. Pls forgive.

It's a game. This means we can say anything can work with anything else.
Anyways, in real life just about 99.999% of the asteroids out there are made of high amount of iron. However, we only know what a very small amount of asteroids are made out of , since we don't really have access to anything that's in space. Like we did do some experiments on that one, but that's one out of a countless number of asteroids out there.

As far as asteroids go. The one thing I would be worried about is how would you code something like that where someone can't blow up the asteroid your on, and how do you keep someone from jumping to the middle of no where.

As far as caves. You can just write a code that will keep someone from leaving the cave in a walker. I honestly believe the walker will be best used in a cave. Like while a walker can get stuff 5 times faster, I'm able to get platinum a lot faster on my ship than a walker.
