Hey guys ,

So I am a complete space sim noob....only games I have ever played are FPS!

Anyways I got this game , did all the tutorial video's and so far im really interested in the game and want to give it a try....

I have spent an hour dying in the very first mission! I am using a joystick...so my flying aint to bad.....but then the enemy fighters just shoot me out of the sky , my countermeasures I only release when the warning sounds beep real fast but I cant get past the very first missions! (i have restarted and tried all 3 , either spying on enemy ships or escorting a capital ship)


Please help me....how the heck do you play this game......thanks:D

Hello, first of all, combat has a learning curve. The AI are smart and hunt in packs. As a new player DO NOT try to take them all on at once with a beginning ship. One way to learn is to jump onto MP and join up with a pilot who may be willing to teach you a little. Take your time and learn how to handle your ship. Try to take on one AI at a time and attack them at an angle so that (turn off IDS) you can strafe them as you pass them. Stand by for more help. Hang in there. Welcome to the forum and the Sim. Hi Porky101, welcome to the game and forum!.....Hope to see you out there some time!.....;):cool:
The spying and escort missions are best done in Multiplay with other players online to help you out at the beginning, You can also hire other friendly(Green)AI ships to help you out.
Once you have upgraded your ship and know how to handle your ships speed, drift and angle of attack on inertia it will become easier!....Check out also SeeJay's website, has a lot of tips about combat!

Hi and welcome.

Most important, fight in inertia mode (drifting).

But start slow. Begin in Sapphire and do easy
none combat missions. This will teach you
how to handle your ship.

Then do the IMG Quest. You'll learn a lot
and get paid along the way so you can
upgrade ship and equipment.
Find where to start by hitting F3 and then
"News" and finally "Read last Quest message".
You can do this quest in MP as well.

You will get "easy" combat to start with
following the Quest.

You can also be a gunner to another pilot
in MP and watch how he/she does it.

Hey guys ,

Thanks for the replies:D

Ok , i have died about 50x most frustrating game ever! But im getting a bit better.....watched some youtube video's and I have been minning all day! , is their any way I can keep the mining laser on without holding B for 20 min!?

Anyways , I have done a few of those IMG missions...they pay really low compared to what I get in minning , I have about 300k credits from like 2 hours of mining!

I try and upgrade my ship and it says I dont have enough assembly points? How do I get more? (i think thats what it says , if I try put on better wings or engine or cargo hold!


what server do you guys play on? i would love to play on your servers and do a few missions:D

Press Alt-B to hold your mining beam.
If you want to start out by mining, you better make a ship with 5 cargo bays so you get max profit. Move your beam around for faster mining.

this game is really starting to bug me.

I keep saving every couple of minutes...

I went on another fighting mission , in 10 seconds I died...I load up my "last" save and im about 2 hours behind??? nowhere near my last few saves.....

Have you read the instructions? Just don't keep saving -after- you accept a contract, you can't save with an active contract. Save in between contracts and then, use Alt-F9 to quick save in the game rather than entering the exit menu and trying to save there.

Keep up doing the IMG. There might be
a reward in the end ;-)

Bigger ships has more assembly points.
Upgrade shields and other needed items first
and use what's left for engines last.
The IDS multiplier will make even a small
engine good enough.

i was helping him around yesterday, :P hes verrrrrrrrrrrrrry new , starting to get it a bit better , bought him a ferret , kept trying to do combat in the mercenary starter i guess , not the best idea

Well practice together then, no missions, just the two of you, that's how i have been teached (bad english yes, i am sorry) from splosives and Hawkeye.


p.s. I need one or two weeks more to get some free time, i cannot wait to get in, i will help as much people as possible.

SO heres a question about dogfighting.

Im on the first serious combat mission for IMG (the one where you protect a ship making a long jump). I have coil lasers and eclipse cannons and its pretty easy to tell I'm making contact with them, the weird part is sometimes it takes about 30 seconds of fire to take one of these suckers down and other times it will take 5 minutes of them constantly taking hits and they still wont die. Is there something weird about my weapons that i don't know about, like an effective range? Also are enemies supposed to spawn in endlessly cause the contract says 2. Last time i tried there were 8 from the start D:

Some star systems have very bad Intel. Reinforcements are expected in places like Olympus where the Guild is family run and relatives show up at the drop of a hat.

Yes, there is an effective range for your cannons which affects the effective range of your lasers! But this is not the only deciding factor for taking out another ship! Other factors are the enemies ships class armour, shielding, shield and energy boosters!......;):cool:
