Disabling tilt key option in mutliplayer whos for it
Ok so here I am intrested how many people are for disabling tilt key option in multiplayer. I think it is very bad key for people to have access..
Reason one: anyone can tell where you are
Reason two: it eliminates surprise factor. For example if I would be at war with another clan they would know where I am now take that away they would actually have to search you.
reason three: this way it makes it easy to gather intelligence on peoples stations and remove them
Now I am for removing that option or having something different in place for.
What are your thoughts?

I'm pretty sure there's an option inside the server software to turn that off. It's just up to each server admin to decided if they want it on or off. Otherwise, I've been on a few servers that were consistently bugged and never showed player locations.

I guess I was mistaken. I tend to agree with you, capt. Not having that list would make searching for someone nearly impossible. Not to mention the chat spam...

you can search a sector for a long time and never find your target
1 sector is alot farther than your sensors can reach

That is not entirely true. You can easily find people if they like to be found. This specific reference only applies to newer players that are not able to use navigation map properly. But you could just say meet at this station in this system. Most people that actually survive past first day in space get good grasp of coordinate system. From post: 144694, Topic: tid=9777, author=polyvinyl_zer0k wrote:I guess I was mistaken. Alternative would be to introduce some kind of directional scanner to locate people in specific sectors instead having global coordinate for everyone to see.

Stealth and great tactics gives you surprise! The worse feeling to have is knowing that your enemy is near but how near?
This is the fun part!

Disabling tilt key option in mutliplayer whos for it
Hey everyone, been on mp a couple times now and my hp laptop has a bilingual keyboard on it (canada eh?), so the tilt key has 5 different characters on it (depending on your language settings). Have tried shift+tilt, have change keyboard language settings back and forth, but nothing. Anyone have the same problem? Is there a way to remap? When I have done mp, I like going on servers that have people (cause that's the point right?) but have no way to check how many people are on apart from check server status before connecting.

Hello Keith and welcome.
For the tilde key, you can also optionally use the scroll lock key for keyboards that lack the tilde key. And yes, you can also remap the tilde key option. From the instructions included with the game:
Some keyboards may not support the tilde key input for the status key. The scroll lock key can also be used and you can also customize the key. Create a text file in the game's folder (usually C:\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary) with the filename statkey.txt and in the first line, enter the 'scancode' number of the key you want to use. A list of the scancodes for each key is available at this link.

The ~ key on my laptop will not work in that way either due to a computer glitch or something so I programed the left Ctrl key for that function and it works find.

stealth lets you be tactical and surprise your enemy (Klingon Warbird uncloaking off the port bow, Captain . . . ) - so it's banned?
Am I missing something here? Is the jousting like knights of old jousting - formal and open?

The problem with disabling this function is that if someone doesn't want to be found, but you desperately need to find him, you will NEVER find him. He could be anywhere in space. Even if you know what system he's in, you wouldn't be able to find him. With this system, at least we know what sector he's in. And like people already mentioned, a sector us pretty big. Even if you know what sector they're in, if they're not in a station or near an object on the map, Good luck finding them.
