CW's question thread

Post by Combat Wombat »

Gonna be asking allot of questions so I figured it'd be best to put them all in one thread :D

Is there a way to filter the "chat window"? the game gives you allot of information in multiplayer that is completely useless.

Is there a way to move the "chat window"? It is about an 1/8th of the way across my screen from the left giving it a very very awkward position.

Is there a page somewhere that fully describes each frame/hull? Like the cargo space each bay gives.

Clans. I am looking for a clan that is 18+ only. English speaking and uses voice chat prefer Teamspeak but I am flexible on that point. Not looking for anyones recruitment speech just a list I can investigate on my own.

Hey CW! Welcome aboard! I'll take a shot at your inquiries.

Whilst in-game, you can toggle the "X" at the top of the chat box to reduce the chat displayed to three lines of text.

Not sure if there is or may be a way to move the chat box. You might contact Vice thru regular channels to even see if this may be an option in what he's planning for the future.

There are a number of methods to check out frame/hull specs, as well as what other weapons/equipment items are available. The first is to be in-game, at a station, constructor, or carrier. Then check the F-3 inventory list for ships chandlery. Then enter the station/shipyard window. Once there, reference the options available. Ships' frame(s), Engine, Shield, Cargo, Fuel, and Wing set information may be gleaned at a toggle.
Secondly, get the Mercs Manual and/or the Hints/Tips/Tricks compendium and RTFM - Read The Furnished Material. ;)

Check the Clans Thread in this forum, for Clan information. Most all of the Clans have a broad spectrum of membership, age non-respective and scattered across the face of Planet Earth. There are any number of Clans who would extend a welcome to you, should you so choose. :)

Good Luck and hope to see you out there sometime! :P

So what stops you from using the savegame system to clone items/money?

You can clone your profiles, but you can't "give" money/items from one profile to the other.

So, you will only end up with a mirror of the cloned profile. Not gaining anything from it.

Yes, but you need to do that in MP and you can't give them to yourself.
Another player can of course give you money/items as well!;)

So money in multiplayer is essentially meaningless since you can trade the same money to people multiple times.

Is there a point to the freighter ships? They have the same cargo capacity as the fighters.

Civilian ships can have 5 cargo bays.
Military only one!

And yes, you can "cheat" by trading cash with a friend back and forth but I don't think many people do that.
For me, that takes away the fun of achieving everything on my own.

Is there any chance to Vice fix this? :(
Maybe force save when trading something?

It can be a serious problem ...

It does save when you trade if I recall correct!

Yeah you would have to have characters saved on the servers. Would still let server operators cheat I guess but I don't think that would be an issue.

Or have the game put the saves in an encrypted file serverside so only the game can access them and would help prevent any kind of tampering.

Whenever you buy a new ship or modify your old one or build something using a Build Constructor (to name a few applicable situations), the game saves automatically. If you want to do a "rabbit in the hat" trick with your cash, you'll need to find somebody willing to hold your cash while you swap profiles. Of course, if the Server catches you pulling a stunt like that and thinks it violates his ethical standards, he can promptly boot the player holding your cash and ... if the boot comes before the player had time to save.... Well, such is life.

Could still just make multiple saves so even if one got borked you could keep going making more copies. And you could just make your own server to do it all on then load onto one of the normal servers with no one the wiser.

And just to note I have no plan to do any of this I just wanted to know if it was actually possible so I know how to rate others multiplayer achievements. Money or items I now know are not a useful metric.

How about 100+ Billion credits as a "useful metric" ? Or how about a 215273 civ rating? Or how about 4325 mil rating ? Admittedly, it may idicate a tendancy known as AR/OC. But then again, it's taken just a bit of time and effort to get there. And that's just one of the profiles I fly. ;)

Never, ever have I witnessed any pilot able to "pass" him/her/itself credits, items, etc. between game profilles. Not totaly sure, but I'll bet this is one of those potential options it's probably best not to "assault the castle" on. Vice is pretty forsquare on target for fairness and balance for all who fly the "game". :)

 The money you can pass back and forth ... but not the rank or rating. When I use a clone, I often forget I'd created it before making Legend ... until I'm rudely reminded every time I try to dock at a game-created station in Pearl.
