Question about the customising kit.

Post by Autopilot »

Soooo... Errr, what am I doing?

I know it's probably really simple, just like me, so I put the folders from the 'CK' into the 'sw3dg' file in the C drive? is that right? Then everything from those files should just appear in the game?

I have a feeling I will break it somehow lol...

Don't want to break it so if anybody might be able to explain a little, I will pick it up quickly. Just not quite sure what I'm doing.

Just need to place the desired folder and files inside the EvochronMercenary folder within the sw3dg folder. That is, if you are using the direct download version. If you are using the Steam version, then you'll need to put the folder and files inside the default Steam installation folder. Either way, the folder and files need to be contained inside the same folder as where the game's EXE is located.

oh, it's the downloaded version... I have the sw3dg folder in a different place than the Evo merc folder with the exe...
what have I done? lol...

I've placed the music file, the hud and ship files into the evo file and I loaded the game and there was an error message saying that there was no reflection for something and the game shut down...

I know it's not complicated, I used to mod the sims 2, but for some reason I haven't worked it out in my head yet...

just had a look, I have the sw3dg file with an evochron mercenary folder inside that has some .sw and a .bak thingy which is in the C directory of my laptop, then I have the EM game folder in my... games folder... is that wrong?

No, not wrong. You can install the core game files separately from the save data files if you want to. It can just make things a little more confusing in situations such as this.

If the reflection layer is missing, the cockpit structure isn't yet fully implemented for importing yet. Check out the ReadMe for details on what to do to prepare and import a custom cockpit mesh structure. The sample files aren't intended to be direct 1:1 imports to use as mods themselves, rather as guides to help you know what resolutions to use, scaling where applicable, and general shape/appearance.

ah ha! makes a bit more sense, lol!!!

that's fine, I should read things more carefully... about the music file, that will go into the EM folder and you rename the songs you want, to "musiclevel1-1.ogg" sorta thing...? that should be ok shouldn't it?

I was going to put "1000 ships of the underworld" - by Two steps from hell, as my threat level 3 song, that's EPIC!

Yes, if you run into any playback problems, just try a different sampling rate on the OGG format. The format the game uses for the default music files is 44KHz 127 kbps stereo.

y'know you say on the readme file to import a fader...
for music to fade together nicely...
ermmm... can I ask how you do that?

I've converted some tracks but they don't seem to play, I'm probably doing something wrong...? just plays the default songs

but then again all I've done is put the converted songs into the music folder and put that folder in the EM folder... Is there somethign else I need to do? lol

As for fading, many sound editing programs provide the option to fade volume up or down for a selected section (I use GoldWave for audio editing).

I have ableton live 8... do you mean just put a fade at the beginning and end of the song?

lol, I'm a music producer, but I thought there was some fade file that had to be imported to the music file, or something... didn't realise you meant fade the songs individually... heh...

I'm having technical issues to be honest... my music file worked for a short time, and since I've added some more tracks in, and now... when it loads it gets to 100% and completely dies... says ther's a problem but it doesn't tell me what it is...

my music file is only about 76mb? would that cause the problem?

Could be a formatting problem with one of the particular songs. Could be one of the music files is named incorrectly (.ogg.ogg at the end, missing/incorrect number, incorrect spelling, or something).

music files should be a .ogg files and named as - musiclevel1-1 , musiclevel2-1 and 3-1, up to 1, 2, and 3-100, that's right isn't it?

so they should be

musiclevel1-1
musiclevel1-2
musiclevel1-3 and so on til you get to 2-1, 2-2... and 3-77...? lol .ogg files... and that's all as long as they format correctly when converting them...

meh...

Yes, that's correct. It's probably just a sample/format issue. What I'd suggest is test removing groups of three songs from the end of the list until you find the set that still works. Then trouble the last group of 3 you removed to see if one of those might have a problem.

perfect, thanks Vice (again) I was thinking the exact same thing except I was going to do it one by one... lol but in 3s is good...

damn you 100% crash problem! and damn my epic soundtrack! hehe... it takes sooo long to keep loading the game to 100%, if it was like 10% or 28%... but 100% everytime really is mean!

anyway, cheer Vice I'll be sure to fix the problem now and stop annoyingly asking for help with absolutely everything hahaha!
