So, if you have a velocity directly away from a gravitational core that is 2/3 of the gravity value, the 2 updates cancel each other out and you maintain position.
I discovered this experimenting while refueling bone dry tanks in a stellar corona. With a gravity value of 1200 and a velocity of -800 i was able to sit for an extended period gathering fuel without the gravity value changing. It eventually dropped to 1199 and continued down extremely slowly thereafter. I had full tanks by the time it hit 1197.
Not that you'll ever need to be dead on here, just getting close will allow to avoid burning up/crashing long enough to fill up. Haven't bothered to check yet if this works the same for planets. Anyway, didn't see any other posts that described it in this way so I thought I'd share.

I got into this predicament by running out of gas. I managed to get myself within 4 sectors of a star, with 8 units of fuel left. Plotted my jump into the corona for a refuel..... but after having been max jumping for so long, i accidentally pressed alt F2
