hi there.
im new to the game.. and one of my first contracts to do is to deliver a cargo of diamonds to a ship. going directly below it. ok.
before i go the the waypoint i sold the cargo of diamons to the station im parked in.
so i got the money and after that i cancel the current contract. and when i cancel that the contract it appears avaliable again on the menu.
so i can accept the contract, sell the cargo, cancel it, then accept it again on the menu.. and keep the money.
is that correct?
thanks

The result of what you did meant you got 0 contract credit and 0 reputation credit, so your future pay is effected by your decision to abandon the contract and sell off the material. Contracts earn more for you than just credits and they effect your long term reputation and pay. In the short term, you gained a few credits. In the long term, you limited/harmed your reputation which will result in flat/less pay in the future for you.

It would work the same in the real world as a company can contract to carry and deliver something but sell it instead. In that same way it would hurt their reputation just as it does in the game. From post: 136703, Topic: tid=9324, author=countjimula wrote:Ahh I see

That's exatly right and it's something I wanted the game's design to achieve. The game is intentionally designed to give you the kind of freedom to be able to make decisions like that. And as with so many elements in the game, the actions you take can have consequences/results, some good, some bad, some short term, some long term. But the point is, you have the freedom to dynamically change the conditions of the game by choosing what to do, even if it falls outside the parameters of intended/established objectives. Maybe you need that extra 50K of credits now to help cover emergency fuel or repairs and giving up a little contract reputation is worth it to you for a one time action. Or maybe conditions change right in the middle of the mission and you decide it isn't worth firing the missiles or using the fuel to reach the destination point safely, so you decide to take the contract rep hit and sell of the material. It's not cheating or exploiting the game at all, it's playing it exactly as it's designed to be played... dynamically making decisions based on conditions and your personal goals/interests.It would work the same in the real world as a company can contract to carry and deliver something but sell it instead. In that same way it would hurt their reputation just as it does in the game.

What's annoying is not having the ability to buy back anything you sell (i.e. it doesn't show up in available list of items to buy when you sell it, even if it was something originally bought from the same place just a second ago). So if you sell it accidentally, you cannot buy it back.
Also, it's annoying when you leave a station to fulfill a contract and you remember that you'd forgotten to reload CMs or refuel, and you promptly get the 'Contract Cancelled' message. Maybe a time limit or sector limit thing instead of just a re-dock?

If it only happens with Recover contracts, then alright. Maybe my memory was mixed up.

Since there is rep loss when failing a contract, couldn't someone fail contracts for guild/rebel factions on purpose to get good standing with the authorities (Navy/Energy)? Or is simply accepting the contract for the guild/rebel factions a rep loss with the authorities?
