Number of sectors

Post by Cheri50000 »

Hi, guys!

I wanted to ask you, how many sectors SX, SY and SZ in evochron universe? Is it SX: 99,999, SY: 99,999 and SZ 99,999 or SX: 999,999, SY: 999,999 and SZ: 999,999? Thanks!! This is very interesting stuff indeed!!

:o The Evoverse gets kind of strange once you wander beyond about 19,000 sectors in any direction. But strange can be good, right?

Hi, guys!

I think the evoverse goes as far as SX: 99,999,999, SY: 99,999,999, and SZ: 99,999,999 sectors!! I think if you go out far enough in space say about 10,000,000 sectors away in any direction from the Sapphire system which is at SX: 0, SY: 0, and SZ: 0 there won't be any stars, just the complete emptiness of space!!

Cheers,
Vincent

Maars has a magic crystal that lets him modify his jump drive to jump to any coordinate he wants - he's jumped to at least 300 000+ sectors out

I've got to 250 000 sectors eastwards from Sapphire the hard way (no magic crystal!) - jump - refuel and repeat . . .

It's a spoiler but if you want to know about the strangeness "out there", an account of my journey is available in the faction/mods thread under the title "Blog of a Deep Space Explorer" (in five parts) :P

One is discouraged from going too far out in MP because it can "break" the clan stats screen! It's lonely doing it in SP though :D

Yes, my last jump attempt was succesfull to SX 10,000,000 SY 10,000,000 SZ 10,000,000. Nobody else has been this far out!....;):P:cool:

Hi, Maarschalk!

Holy mackerel, that's impressive! How long it takes you to get to SX: 10,000,000, SY: 10,000,000, and SZ: 10,000,000 sectors? Did you see no stars this far out? It sounds like the edge of the evochron universe is SX: 99,999,999, SY: 99,999,999, and SZ: 99,999,999 sectors from Sapphire before you end up get back from where you started.

Assuming the use of signed 64-bit integers:
(9,223,372,036,854,775,807-(-9,223,372,036,854,775,808))^3 =
6,277,101,735,386,680,762,814,942,322,444,851,025,767,571,854,389,858,533,375 =
6.2771017353866807628149423224448510257675718543 × 10^57 sectors

Assuming the use of signed 32-bit integers:
(2,147,483,647-(−2,147,483,648))^3 =
4,294,967,292 =
4.294967292 x 10^9 sectors

Hi, FrozenEagle!

You are saying the evochron universe has 4,000,000,000 sectors from Sapphire to the edge of the evochron universe and eventually you'll end up get right back to where you started from where you left, right? Thanks! This is very interesting stuff indeed!!

It depends on how the game handles overflow.
It could loop because of how positive and negative numbers are represented in binary or it could break the game.

This is an example of how overflow works using 8-bit integers
0111 1111 = 127
1000 0000 = -128
Edit: This is for signed integers; for unsigned integers 1000 0000 = 128

It took me 12 seconds like a normal jump would take!. No stars, some ships flying around and a lot of weird things like ghost planets, ships and nebulaes.....;)

Hi, guys!

I'm curious if the evochron universe goes on forever or it loops and many sectors from Sapphire before the evochron universe loops? Thanks!

Hi, Maarachalk!

How did you get to SX: 10,000,000, SY: 10,000,000, and SZ: 10,000,000 sectors from Sapphire in 12 seconds and what kind of jump drive did you use? Thanks!

 "Loops" probably isn't the most accurate way to describe what happens. At some point, planets are mirrored ... kind of like Alice through the looking glass. Sort of. But not exactly. (It might be best to ask Professor Tyson.)

Hi, Marvin!

I'm sorry I didn't word it right, I meant to say how many sectors before you reach the end of the evochron universe if there is one? Thanks!

Cheers,
Vincent
