Research Partner Sought - short term paid contract

Post by DaveK »

An unusual, paid contract on offer to a pilot who is interested in what is really happening with your weapons rather than what people think is happening or who wants to make some easy money.

The job: sit still and let me shoot you, respawn as necessary

Time period: probably less than 30 mins.

When?: at a mutually convenient time

Pay: negotiable but in the region of a several million credits if you need the money or a piece of hard to get equipment (e.g. Mantis Drive or Stealth Generator) if you prefer or, if you are experienced, just for the fun of finding out :D

Why?: It is commonly said that beam weapons are for depleting shields and then you switch to particle weapons to take out the hull. However, preliminary tests show the following:

A Fusion beam firing continuously actually uses far less energy than the energy recharge system produces

An IceSpear uses just a bit less than the recharge system can produce

Used seperately, the weapons energy never runs out - in fact if the weapons energy is low when you start firing it increases and reaches 98/99% and flickers there

Beam/particle combo together deplete the energy store in around 10 seconds; this more than enough to take out an AI hostile.

but

A Fusion beam (Class 5) by itself takes ages to put a dent in shields (20+ seconds to be noticeable)

Prelim tentative conclusion: If you don't use a beam weapon at all, you should be able to fire a particle canon for a very long time continuously and do similar damage as the shorter lived particle/beam combo (ie take out an AI hostile quickly)

The project: I need to collect valid data on the effect of weapons on shields and hulls. This means data that is reproducible and that uses a "standard" target. AI pilots (of all attitudes) won't sit still!

Any takers please U2U me

:D

I am really eager to learn about your findings but i am not available to be shot at. :p

Getting a clear and definite answer on the best weapons to use will be useful.

I can do it whenever we meet online.

Just can't say when I'm on nowadays.;)

Thanks West - I'm away until Sunday - I should be able to be back on am and pm and evening (yes Semantic & Grammar Czar, I know it's pm as well ;) )

I'll try to get onto the USA-NC server first (and Xanadu as a back up if USA-NC is full). When I'm back, I'll post here.

And U2U people if that is OK. And I know I shouldn't start a sentence with a preposition Maars and Marvin :P:P:P

The contract payment will apply to everyone whom (EDIT - who????) I use as a target :). I'm looking at around 25 million so as not to spoil it for those who want to make their own way - lottery winners don't have much left to do. Reminder: I will, as an alternative, track down and buy any piece of equipment (that isn't just in your dreams (like an Excal pack that can fire 1 or 2 or 4 or all eight missiles in one "shot")) as an alternative to cash.

Now there is an idea! - contracts that reward you with vouchers to collect so that when you have enough they are exchangeable for "hard to get" equipment. :P:P:P:P:P

I'm really not after the money. I just need to observe some stuff while you shoot at me.

:o Seems my U2U box is full ... and no matter how many messages I delete, I still get the "full" message. So, it was Starport 10 (within 3 sectors of the galactic center) and I'll be on at the usual time on Sunday (somewhere around 1900 hrs to 2000 hrs Zulu).

yep! - I should have twigged that Galactic HQ would be close to the Galactic centre! Anyway, I'm now girding my loins for the next challenge :D (The Royalty sounds a bit "inbred", if I may mention it! :P )

7 - 8 pm UCT/GMT sounds good! I should have relaxed after taking Her Ladyship's horse (and most important thing in her life (after me I hope!)) up and down a major highway (as you guys call them!) tomorrow :)

Why can't we call the zero line time by one name? - Zulu Time - Greenwich Mean Time - Universal Clock(?) Time; why so many???

Last week I turned up to Cindy's get together 14 hours early! :P:P

This is a WONDERFUL idea. Im a stats guy myself. Cant wait to see the results and have a small request:

Would you do a stat for the best use of the weapons linked? What I mean is can u fire the weapons linked and see which combination gives you the most bang for your buck? I know its better to switch between what you fire first and second but Im old and stuck in my ways :P

Im assuming you are going to be mixing weapons anyways so if you could that would rock. And really the only combination I would like to know aboot is the two highest level ones, the 15lvl cannon and lvl 5 laser. I can hold my mose button down and the combination of tham chews through ships, often before I run out of energy.

Nice initiative, DaveK, kudos for continuing to bring clarity to, erm, the flying masses? :P
I'd be happy to be shot at, but I can't really get on these days, unfortunately. Either way, it seems you've found a few volunteers - kudos to all of youse, as well!
