Reputation Question

Post by alanmc »

Lads and Lasses,

I've got some kills under my belt, a decent ship and a stash of cash, so I've set about taming Fauston in SP. But I have a question about the Reputation system.

I understand that doing contracts for Navy/Energy/Miners will prod your reputation towards the next level up (in my case from Moderate to Fair in Fauston) ... and I can see my percentage for Navy increasing nicely per contract completed. I also understand that if I leave Fauston before the transition, my percentages are "reset" and all my good work is undone. My question is, after I've made the transition, is that permanent? If I never visit Fauston again, does my standing remain at Fair? Or does it start to slowly leak back to what it was?

Cheers,
Al.

In single play it will be permanent. In multiplay it will depend if you belong to a clan or what other players are doing in that same system you are trying to improve!....;)

Cheers Maarschalk. Now the question is, if I get Fauston to Fair, will my company give me more time off work as a reward?

Yup, the rep needs to change before you leave the system.

I wish i'd have paid more attention. Often i've taken missions here and there in the hope of boosting my reputation slightly over time. Now it seems i've just wasted my time. I think though that this should be changed in future versions... I don't see why your good work has to go to waste just because you only improved the %. I mean it really takes a lot to improve your reputation rating and i don't necessarily want to have to stick to doing missions in a system over and over and over until it goes from hostile to fair.

Well, I think the idea is that if you leave the system before establishing a reputation change, then the "powers that be" in the system "lose interest" in you.

It'd be nice if the percentage slowly bled back to a base level over time. But then the concept of "time" needs to be defined. Is it in game time, or does time continue even when you're not playing.

If I'm honest, I like it the way it is.

It is like taking a part time or contract job, the company does not get to know you long enough and the changes you made to improve anything are soon changed by other employees or the other factions/competition to restore the balance in the competitions favour to what it was before! And I like it to the way it is other wise again it becomes much easier. As it is you can already change your reputation in each of the known systems to good in one week's time!.....;):P:cool:

This is why I asked if it leaked back to a bad reputation. It would help longevity of the SP game if it did.

But I guess the MP game does this organically.

I'd actually hate if it trickled back down. I have to say anyway being in an hostile system is mainly just annoying. I'd like if navy ships didn't attack me so much but otherwise it hardly makes a difference. Perhaps if there were real obvious perks to being favored by one faction more than the others. I mean aside from the kind of missions you'll be offered, there isn't any real advantages or disadvantages.
