Yep, the kilrathi had some awesome flying tactics especially when you had the difficulty setting cranked up to Ace, then the cats start flying like Maniac or Prince Thrakath, this is where you gotta master the Shelton slide, Wing Commander's version of inertial mode for all you WC vets out there like myself lmao. From post: 131007, Topic: tid=8911, author=Munshine wrote:About the lack of challenge during combat after a time, the issue is with the programmed Ai which can't adapt to your tactics. It can't engage you in inertial mode as you do. Like said Raynor you have always the upper hand in combat. So the easy way to balance that is swarms of enemy ships which respawned from time to time like in many games.
Services of some Expert in AI would be required as it's an issue very hard to handle, I presume.
I would prefer also fewer enemy ships with different tactics like in Wing Commander but with the inertial mode.

Seems a few newbies are having problems with AI missiles. Here's one way to tackle them.
Set your waypoint just off center of the green marker point. That should bring you out of jump drive about 4k from the AIs. Switch on your inertia and cut your throttle to zero. Drift into to around 1.4k, from the AI, and hit reverse thrust to take ur reverse speed up to around -1400. The AIs will flock towards you, fire off their missiles, and, their missiles won't reach you. Meanwhile your missiles will reach them!!
You'll find that the AI can dodge close range missile fire, but, take no avoiding action against long range missile fire - strange, but, there it is. If you're engaging 7 AI, your missiles should be able to take out 4 of them, then you can engage the other three with gunfire. Get stuck in, and, enjoy!

It's possible that the AI in the expansion will more closely resemble Arvoch Alliance AI. Which is better (for the AI, anyway).

Actually I find 30 AI's in AA easier to handle then 30 AI's in EM.....But 4 of them in AA are harder then 4 of them in EM! Now if only I could put it in a mathematical equation.......

Hmmm, that doesn't seem relative at all, does it Maars.
I'm curious how you're gonna explain your way out of this one haha!

The good old days. First space sim i ever played. Got it for christmas 1990 (probably my best christmas gift memory in fact). Hated Maniac, he'd get in your way, ignore your orders and steal your kills! I wish the series had killed him off. But yeah Wing COmmander managed to make it challenging agaisnt just a few enemies. That being said you had to seriously improve to finish the expansion packs. I didn't think it was possible to finish them at first. But then with enough practice.... A typical mission in the expansions would give you a Hornet and have you face like ten Jalthi....and that was just the first waypoint! I STILL to this day consider finishing the WC expansion packs my greatest video gaming achievement. They were just insane. The original game in comparison was just a piece of cake and i doubt if any later WC game ever was as tough as those WC1 expansions.

It is relatively easy to explain but putting it in a mathematical equation is like giving relativity its own equation and that would be the all inclusive grand unification equation if it was relatively at all possible....From post: 131131, Topic: tid=8911, author=Viper wrote:Hmmm, that doesn't seem relative at all, does it Maars.I'm curious how you're gonna explain your way out of this one haha!

You'll improve your fighting skills a lot.
A fight between 2 equally skilled pilots are very interesting.
A lot of tactics/maneuvering is involved there!;)
