Hi, guys!

Is there any space stations in sol. System? I'd thought I better check and see before I fly to sol. System. Thanks!

Cheers,

According to http://mercenary.junholt.se/ there are multiple stations in the Sol system.

Not to threadjack you, but I have a newbie question that is somewhat related to yours... Hopefully someone can help me out too :)

How would one get to the Sol system? I know the coordinates, and I'm (roughly) familiar with how to travel long-distance, but I'm curious if there are any tips that experienced players would advise. Do I just set my destination position to the appropriate system coordinates, and hit auto-pilot?

I think my biggest fear is running out of fuel in the middle of the flight. How do I plan how much to bring? Should I just say to hell with it and fit my ship with the largest fuel tank possible?

Hi.

There are some stations in SOL.
Might be many in MP depending on how many player build there are.

There are basically 2 ways of getting to SOL.
1. I use a 2400 fuel tank and bring a Build Constructor and a Deploy Constructor.
Take off from Sirius and you'll get there by refueling 2 or 3 times using auto pilot. (Build/deploy station).

2. There is a shorter way but I will not publish it here. It is available on my map.
It involves a little deep space flying but not as much as the scenic route from Sirius.;)

If you can't figure it out using my mapsite, let me know and I'll u2u it to you.

Have fun!

 With 2400 units of fuel, you probably won't need any constructors. Just put the coordinates in the Nav Map's Destination windows, launch from Sirius via autopilot, engage inertial (to keep from using a lot of fuel slowing down between jumps), and go grab a good book. Keep one eye on the Nav Map (zoomed all the way out) and disengage autopilot when you see the first available planet of the Sol system (otherwise you might just keep on going until you run into the Sun).

LOL, you're probably right Marv.

Was a while since I did that trip and I always have a constructor when exploring.
(I don't read books when exploring. Zipping my Scotch and work on the
website works nicely for me)

You never know when a pilot out there screams for fuel. :P

  • Get either a 1200 unit (minimum) fuel tank or a Deploy Constructor (a Build Constructor will also work).
  • Get either a C5 Fulcrum or a Mantis jumpdrive.
  • Take the gates to Sirius.
  • Open the Nav Map (F1).
  • Click on the Quadrant button and get the coodinates for Sol.
  • Input the Sol coordinates into the Destination windows (Nav Map, top-right).
  • Fill your fuel tanks.
  • Disengage Inertial.
  • Engage autopilot.
  • As soon as autopilot has you heading in the proper direction, re-engage Inertial.
  • Zoom the Nav Map all the way out.
  • At the sight of any planet in Sol, disengage autopilot.
  • Continue inbound, manually.

* With autopilot selected, your ship will calculate a hyperjump, make the jump, then recharge. Once the recharge is completed, the autopilot will automatically make the next jump in sequence. And will continue to do so until reaching your destination.

* This function of the autopilot is a modification Vice made after a number of pilots complained about the need to use scotch tape to hold down the autopilot key for long trips. Other pilots used stacks of small coins. Anything, actually, to keep the autopilot engaged.

* With Inertial engaged, the ship will not slow to a stop between jumps. This is a good way to keep from wasting the fuel otherwise used in slowing down.

Yeah maybe i should start a separate thread about this but hmm, i've had a lot of trouble getting my autopilot to automatically jump. 9 times out of 10 it doesn't work. Like i'll set a nav point beyond my drive's reach, then turn the autopilot on and it will not do anything. It won't jump. It will just head towards the nav but won't jump. It works once in a very rare while but very very rarely and sometimes it will do a few jumps and then stop and never resume. Am i th eonly one with this problem? Is there something i'm missing?

Sometimes if my pitch is very high or low the auto pilot will turn in circles and not jump.
Can fix that my making sure pitch is level around 0 deg before engaging AP.

Other than that I have never had any trouble with auto pilot not jumping when it should. I suspect there is something simple you have overlooked.

Make sure that when you plug in your coordinates that you hit enter or mouse off the coordinate box, if its still green, the autopilot won't jump. See if thats it. I was pounding my head wondering why it wouldn't jump either than i looked at the nav coordinate box and thats what it was.

 I've had problems kick-starting autopilot ... but not for the last few updates of the game. When it happened, I usually cycled either my throttle position or Inertial. The other problem, with autopilot quitting after a few jumps ... that one I never had. A C1 jumpdrive can cause problems, due to the way the computer calculates jump points but, otherwise, if you're pointing at or near the Nav marker, the autopilot shouldn't start making circles.

yeah i've had times when switching between inertial and ids eventually seemed to fix it...

And i have version1.808 (been too "lazy" to bother getting the update so far, might do that today). I'm gonna experiment further today with the autopilot and see if i can figure it out.

And it isn't failing to press enter after entering my coordinates like rugersp101 said. When that happens, a text message tells you.

Hi, qvstag!

Setting the destination is very simple, all you have to do is enter the numbers -1050 in the SX and -5050 in the SZ fields just below the word destination position to find your way to sol. System. I hope this helps!

 The coordinates you see on the Quadrant map (F1 -> Quadrant button) are sector coordinates. You plug them into the Destination SX, SY and SZ windows. When flying long distances, keep the Navigation map open (F1) and zoom all the way out. To cycle the Inertial on and off, press the Space bar.
