Purchasing new ship [question / need help]
So, I've started playing this game like week ago or something.
I think I've figured out most of things by now (or at least most of the ones I needed). But there is one thing I can't seem to achieve.
I would like to buy new ship and keep the old one on same time. (I have Farret - combat pilot starting ship, and would like to buy something with more cargo).
I know how to trade ship into different one. But how can I keep old one? So I can have two, for different purposes.
I've tried hangar option to store my ship, but then it tells me I do not have enough cash to buy this ship (My farret costs like 4 mil. The ship I want to buy is for ~1 mil). Does storing ship mean making copy of it?
I'd appreciate any kind of help. I seem to be stuck here.

Purchasing new ship [question / need help]
i really suggest buying civ harvesting cash until you got about 5bil and then just fly with combat frame, "storaging" yyour ship is fairly expensive, and since ive never done it im not sure how but like i said, its really not just worth keeping 2 ships at the same time
Welcome aboard, hopefully see in MP!

That's good advice Finny is giving you there. Once you have some billions to start with, you can do what I do:
Once you have found a good trade run and bought a license on a station somewhere, store your military ship and buy the best civilian ship you can get. Only mount the really necessary equipment, like a Jump Drive, Shield Boost and such. Keep as many slots as you can empty. Also, don't mount any additional equipment on the hardpoints, and buy the biggest cargo hold you can find. The rest doesn't really matter.
Do your trading with the civilian ship and when you're done for the day, go back into the station hangar, and click on the 'swap' button right there in the middle. It will put the civilian ship you are flying for trading in the hangar, and give you back your military frame with the equipment mounted the way you left it.
Next time you wanna go trading, simple go back to the hangar and click that 'swap' button again and you will have your civilian trader back. When you're done again, swap it back for the military frame.
And that's it.
A small note:
As Finny pointed out, storing a ship in a hangar does cost you money. You need to have a fairly good trade run to cover the expenses. Also, you will need to trade on a regular bases for the same reason. If you're not a regular trader, you'll be better off just selling and buying the ships instead of storing and swapping them, but you will have to fly to a military carrier for that.
Good luck!

Purchasing new ship [question / need help]
Hi and welcome Willcyd.
You need to enter a station and go into the Hangar.
Store your ship here (Costs cash for rent every cycle).
Then leave hangar. You are now in "a copy" of that same ship.
Now you can buy a new one at this station or go to any other station/city and buy one.
If you can't afford the "Storing" it won't work.
Keep in mind that if you store a Civil ship with a crew, you will lose the crew.
Good luck!!

Purchasing new ship [question / need help]
If you didn't want to pay the storage fees on a ship you could use the "Save as Template" button once you have one fixed up how you like. This is almost the same as storing the ship except you can get it from any station that has that hull available. The template saves the hull, engine, shield, cargo, fuel tank, and wing system settings, as well as their configuration and placement on the hull.
For example if you wanted to swap from your ferret to do some mining you could go to a station, store the ferret, load your template and build, do some mining or trading or whatever, then when done go back to the same station and enter hangar and swap the ships, then sell your mining/trading ship.
Although keep in mind using the templates does not save the equipment you have loaded (like jump drive, shield boost, tractor beam etc.), and as far as I know there is no way to do that other than to store the items in a hangar.

Okay, thanks for info.
One more thing tho. Storing ship costs, it says 40k. But how long does the cycle long? I mean, how often does it charge me?

This does mean you would have to buy a new ship each time, though. From post: 128640, Topic: tid=8770, author=Trig wrote:If you didn't want to pay the storage fees on a ship you could use the "Save as Template" button once you have one fixed up how you like. I'm not sure about the cycle timing, but I would estimate it would be around every 30 minutes.

Thanks everyone for help. Guess I will take an advice and stick to one ship for now then. At least until I earn more cash.

Purchasing new ship [question / need help]
Does it really take a 5 billion nest egg to get by in this universe? I have a little over half a billion and then started running military quests. I stored my civ ship when I got high enough rank for a wraith, but honestly I may just sell the civ ship and just go buy another when I feel like swapping again. Will save the hangar fees that way, and it's not like it's all that difficult to make a run to where they sell the civ ship that I want.
Am I going to be just scraping by? I mean I'm still making money doing military contracts, just not a lot, but I'm definitely not going into the red. What am I missing that takes 5 billion?

Well what I actually wanted by 5billion is: Legend rank as civil = 5billion or many many contracts, and well 5 billion is enough for never need civ ship for trading In my opinion. And if you any point want to change the frame you really dont need to worry about the cash. From post: 128687, Topic: tid=8770, author=Tusc wrote:Does it really take a 5 billion nest egg to get by in this universe? Doing contracts is not the best way to be "rich" in trading you might get around 100k +- in couple minutes depending on your trade route.
So first thing when i started the game was I need enough money to never worry about it: so i mined then i traded then i had 5 billion, yay legend, now im just doing mil contracts in Warzones and gaining Military rank, and I ve really never had to think about money after got the 5bil =)
Hopefully this explained a bit!

Half a billion will do just fine to get by. But if you want to get all the hidden benefits that a reputation of Legend gives you you need at least 2 billion....From post: 128687, Topic: tid=8770, author=Tusc wrote:Does it really take a 5 billion nest egg to get by in this universe? Also to the answer the question about storing a ship. If you are storing a ship you are not trading it. You are just storing it and buying a new one! So you need to have the free credits and not the trade value of your current ship. So that is why it probably said you do not have enough credits to Store and buy a second ship!......

Did not know there were hidden benefits to legend rank. And yeah, I definitely did not do contracts to get the half billion I have. I guess I will have to break out the flying cargo bay for a bit longer this weekend and crank out a few more trade runs. Thanks for the answer. What are the benefits of said legend rank btw?

No more docking fees in hostile systems, higher pay doing contracts, and the respect of other players that you made it this far......From post: 128692, Topic: tid=8770, author=Tusc wrote:Did not know there were hidden benefits to legend rank.
