Maars, did you still get the audio warnings when you made your successful run? I've looked through the thread seems I'm going to be added to the long list of frustrated pilots out there lol.

I found this great quote.

I wonder if it's applicable here.

Yes, it is. But this makes me wonder though, does this mean that 27% of accidents are Space related where there is no Gravity?.......if so, something is relatively wrong with this quote!

So....
precisely how long do I have to wait in Earth's gravity field for a gravitational force of '0' to move me toward Earth ><

I figured if my ship was at rest, and let gravity do the work of pulling me toward the planet - I wouldn't get blown to bits. Though that very much depends on how the 'blow you to bits?' check is coded.

Either I need to be more patient, or I need to get close enough (without being blown up), for the gravitational force to register >0G.

Another possibility is the Buck Rogers-esque shield corridor.... though I'll be damned if I'm going to test every inch of sphere o' death for an opening =|

I can confirm that going beyond +32767 SZ doesn't trigger a "bounds check -> teleport to Earth's surface" secret.

So, does someone want to come give me some fuel?

p.s. very odd that space out here, 5000 sectors from Andromeda is still blue!

I'm starting to think the solution is something silly like carrying a particular cargo item allows you down to Earth's surface.

Solar cells are a low end energy source. Don't expect much for these primitive devices, but in the right system, that can be worth the cargo space.

Sol(ar) cells -> Sol -> Earth -> clutching -> straws.

Now that the 2 Servers where the contest was running on are gone I'm not sure!......
This contest is also for the second person who manages to land on earth and is the second price and fame winner!
The person that needs to add you to the list is Knight Rider!
And you need to start Reading this thread Through page 14 to get the Rules of the contest right!
And a new Server is needed to be found to sponsor and monitor any claim by the contestants to verify and be a witness and abide by the same rules of this contest!.....

Sorry - I've got a profile for that sort of distance out @ sX. 250K doesn't trigger it either and when I bust the clan stats I was given a strong hint that there was nothing way out here to be worth the effort (from Dingo and Vice via Dingo - these people I trust!

This Contest is Officially Re-opened, November 15, 2011

Here are the Rules:

Through Dingo's generosity, he is offering 5 Billion credits to the next Pilot who successfully lands on Earth. The credits will be transferred into your account upon proof of landing.

1) You have to record your call sign here in this thread to become an official participant.

2) Your landing has to be in Multiplayer.

3) In this thread, you have to provide convincing visible screen shots that you were there, and at least 2 pilots from the contest who will vouch for the authenticity of the landing.

4) You also agree by your participation, that if you land on Earth, you agree to keep it a secret. You also agree by your participation, that if you are the winner of this contest and you reveal how it was done, you agree to forfeit all your winnings to be evenly distributed to all official participants, and you agree to forfeit your ranking as being the next pilot to land on Earth in Evochron Mercenary which the honor will revert to the next runner up.

Further Clarification of Official Rules.

For further clarification, you have to have 2 independent pilots from the contest, who will vouch for the authenticity of the landing.

That would be pretty much doing it once, and then getting your witnesses to observe your landing for the authenticity portion, or having your witnesses present.

The catch all is convincing screen shots. After the 2 independent participants, you also have to present your screenshots to everyone else in the contest.

Unless someone from the contest objects, the winner will be announced. I'm giving that honor to Dingo since he's the biggest prize donor.

If we have an objection to the screenshots, then it would take 3 votes, myself, Dingo and a forum moderator to overturn the winner.

If the winner is overturned, then the reason for the invalidation will be announced, the decision will be final, and the contest will continue.
