Saving not working for me. Help!

Post by Kruce »

Ok, so I've been playing for quite a while now.. Quite an amazing game, that I absolutely love. I've run into one small, but extremely frustrating and serious problem for me, saving won't work. I've read a few different forum posts that I could find, and I'm not saving in contracts and nothing should be blocking it. I'm not sure if it's because I'm using the Steam version, or what, but whenever I'm done with a contract and I'm just free roaming, I'll quick save, then save progress to a SEPARATE blank save, then exit and save, yet it will start at some random save from earlier on. Not sure what the problem is, but if you have any insight, please help! I want to move on but can't because it won't save. :(

Are you using Alt-F9 for quick save, or entering the menu each time you are saving? If Alt-F9, are any message appearing in the log to indicate that the save completed or did not complete? If you haven't been using Alt-F9, try that next time and observe what messages are logged, it may help determine why saving at some points isn't working.

Are you using Alt+F9 for Quick Save?

If so does the game tell you in the Chat area: "PROGRESS SAVED"?
If so then your current pilot profile should be saved.

And what do you mean by saving to a SEPARATE blank save and how do you do this? I know how it is supose to be done but I just trying to figure out the steps you do that might be wrong!
If you doing this right then your saved progress will be in the last blank profile block you clicked on which becomes then your current in game profile!

How many profiles do you have at the moment?

I wasn't using Alt+F9 to save, I was just clicking Quick Save in the ESC menu. What I meant by seperate blank save, was I saved it as a "new" pilot rather than just overwriting, because I wanted to make sure nothing was messing up in the process. I used to have four pilots, but I deleted them down to just my one main single player game. I just went on and played a bit, and it looks like Alt+F9 is saving it, though I'm not sure what the problem is or why it won't save if I click on the other "save" options. Thanks for the reply, maybe something got messed up in my download or I have some corrupted files somewhere, I suppose I could re-download. While I have you guys here, if you don't mind, where is the save game files located for Steam version of Evochron Mercenary and what are their names? Anyway, once again.. Thanks for being a helpful community and for such a freaking awesome game!

The default save data folder is c:\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary for all versions, although you can change to anything you like. The profile filenames are pilotX.sw where X will represent each slot from 0 to 99 (for profile slots 1 to 100).

Thanks a lot, I appreciate the guidance!

Edit: I just looked for the file, and I only see pilot2.bk? Is that the same as .sw, because my save in-game is in slot 2.

Clicking on "New pilot" is the wrong thing to do as this creates a new pilot profile from scratch in stead of saving your current profile!.......Instead you should click "Select Profile and Save"

That's what I meant, I'm not actually making a new pilot. I'll continue progressing in game, and do that, but save it to a different profile, like slot 4, yet when I restart, it's at some random save way earlier. I think Alt+F9 is working, so I'll just keep doing that.

After clicking on "Select Profile and Save", do you use left mouse click to click on the slot you want to save the profile to?
and if so does that slot 4 for example after clicking on it show the pilots profile name in that slot 4 or is it still blank after clicking on slot 4?
