Just thought I'd re-post this for those new players with webcams wanting to take advantage of Evochron Mercenary's head-tracking support but don't have a TrackIR system or the patience to build a FreeTrack headset themselves.

I'm using this for quite along time now and all I can say is that it adds huge plus on gameplay feeling.
The newest Version of Facetrack NoIR works very stable and smooth - as long as your webcam is able to record with at least 21 fps ;)

It's great, it works perfectly and it's for free... what else do you want? ^^

Thanks for the link;)

Looks good will give it a go how does it compare to the TrackIR 5? I know that is quite expensive.

I managed to use it with limited success. I'm sure after a little manual reading and some tweaking, I'll get it to work properly. I might post some questions here for experienced users of the program if thats ok.

Could someone who has got FaceTrackNoIR to work post a quick tutorial on what has to be installed?
I think I've got it all setup right (set to use Fake TrackIR), but am getting no device detected in EM :(

nevermind, got it working now.

It seems v160 of facetracknoir doesn't do Fake TrackIR properly. (or perhaps it has to be installed over the top of v150 for it to work).

Got v150 working fine - though I'm still not convinced it gives any benefit in combat.
Nice for glancing around while in free flight though.

It does help me in combat, helps me keep an Eye on incoming missile spams and a big group of enemy fighters!.......;):P:cool:

I've discovered the reason FaceTrackNoIR v160 doesn't work with Evochron is because the Fake TrackIR protocol is broken in the beta.

You can 'fix' it by taking the NPClient.dll from v150 and dropping it into a v160 installation. :D

As for it's usage; yeah I suppose it might come in handy with missiles - but it interferes with everything else just a little too much for my taste; even with rather generous NeutralZones setup.

I have to admit, it does work quite well in conjunction with eyefinity. My super-wide 5760x1080 setup requires head rotation to look at the left & right monitors; these natural head movements work great with the face tracking - much better than having to make 'gesture'-esque unnatural head movements.

I only wish the game detected eyefinity & aligned the hud a little more sensibly. At the moment the corners of the hud are split across monitor boundaries when looking forwards. :(

(oh, and lots of HUD elements stop rendering properly at very high FOV values)

Got it working but when I turn my head left or right, the cockpit view turns very very slow. Any idea how to make it turn faster, as in as fast as I turn my head?

Any help is greatly appreciated! :)
Ok, nice try. Now... it\'s my turn....

Hey demis.

If it works as the one I've tried before, you set how many degrees you will turn
in game for the head movement applied in the software.

10 degr of head = 90 in game or something like that.

Edit the curves in FaceTrackNoIR (big button top right of the main window).

On my 3x22" (5760x1080) horizontal eyefinity setup I found these settings worked great.

Hey guys. Would kinda like to try this out, but I make the room fairly dark when I play Evochron. I'm guessing the room has to be fairly well lit for this to work?

Hi all, you need a fast computer if you got a webcam able to record at 30 fps like the Sony eyetoy.
As my computer is 6 years old it's useless to get a webcam with this refresh rate.

Don't you feel dizzy with a webcam at only 21 fps ?
