Military Frames have Wing Sys 1 preinstalled?

Post by Baner86 »

Heya,

Finally made CMDR military rank so had a look at the military frames (Chimera) specifically.

Is it correct that the Chimera has Shields 10, Engine 10, Cargo Bay 1 and Wing Sys 1?

I am free to change the fuel tank (needed to downgrade to 2400) so thats not an issue but the level 1 wings worry me.

Is that how it's supposed to be?

Thanks for the help.

Hey baner, i hope this site helps you out figuring this one http://evochron.junholt.se/objectdescri ... object.htm
and when you choose military frame, you can see in shipyard which engin, wings, etc are installed in it! But in military frames only thing you can change is fuel tank

dont worry about the class 1 wings, military ships wings will out perform civilian wings of greater class

The Military class1 Wing is different and better then the Civilian class Wings and is Standard on all military craft.
You would not put Civilian Aircraft wings of a Piper on a Military F-22 jetfighter would you?......;):P:cool:

basically the military frames wing and engine aren't judged on the same scale as the civ ships.. all the military are fitted with "class one" wing system but that doesn't have any bearing on the agility of the ship. For example the ship with highest agility (105) evoch-E has class 1 wing sys and is not modifiable, but so does the chimera with the lower agility. Just ignore the wing system rating. As far as the engine rating even though they all have "class 10" engines the base speed (max speed with IDS at x1) varies between the ships. This is the value to use when comparing speed, along with armor as a heavier ship is slower to accelerate.
They all have 1 cargo bay and except for the first 2 in the list, 8 equipment slots and 8 missile hard points.

Cool thanks for the info.

Have tried out the military frames quite a bit, especially the 5 waypoint contracts.

They are certainly built for combat, even the Chimera, the supposedly most sluggish of the military frames feels much better in combat maneuverability and burns off velocity from turns a lot less than my previous starmaster.

Also the huge main energy reserves just lets you pound those enemy fighters into submission!

Having said that though, the painfully slow Hull repair time is very annoying and having the level 10 engines, those mil frames down to the Evoch-E just burn through fuel so much that you lose a huge percentage of your contract pay.

Don't get me wrong. The mil frames look absolutely great and they dominate combat but they are a little specialised for my taste.

Will modify my Starmaster wing systems for max. agility and hang onto my crew. It's a poor replacement for a military frame but at least it is not so limiting.

Banner, you might try a modified Mammoth frame for combat in a civ frame. Many prefer it over the starmaster for just that extra bit of agility. Unless you want to do a lot of PvP, a civ ship can get anything you want done, and are fun to customize.

oh, and try using inertial mode more if you are burning too much fuel.

Don't mean my post to be a diss on combat frames. They are certainly excellent for combat, but doesn't seem to fit with my style.

It's definitely nice to be able to mess around with how your ship looks as a civ frame and at the VERY LEAST paint it a nice rose hue :P

About the using inertial mode to save fuel, do you mean during flight to and from combat or in combat itself?

I use inertial for strafing passes then IDS to turn back around for more passes, sometimes I'll fire the AB just to get into gun range if the enemy has flown away from my inertial pass.

It just seems that the level 10 engines in the mil ships' fuel consumption is very high just for a higher top speed. Doesn't help accel. at all so not really important for combat when you can just increase IDS multiplier for a higher top speed.
