In the Atlas system there is a gas giant with a ring and an asteroid field near the ring.

IF you are in the asteroid field and look at the planet, the planet is nearly totally transparent. You can see the local star through it, as well as the starfield and ring, almost as though the planet was not there at all, except that you can see a faint outline of a disk.

That is the light bending effect of the planet and the particles reflecting the light bouncing of of them that you can see the star behind the planet. The ring and the astroid field and fine particles act as a mirror creating the illusion of a transparent planet. Just like a glass window can have a ghost mirror effect of objects reflected in the window.

I'd rather buy stock in a fleet of those planes with a roll-back sun roof.

I loaded the game again and the issue had resolved. I don't know if it is the new version or just some quirk that I ran into.

Space is full of quirks and anomalies......so it should not be a surprise....
