Range or Damage?
Hello all!!
I have played for over a month now and I can say that I have tried some features of the game. I tried almost all of the weapons, lately I was using the Maxim - R as most people do, I have also tried the menacing Phantom, but, laughingly, the weapon of my choice these days is the simple, innocent, ''sniper'' gun Flarebeam. Not only it has the biggest range, but also has a faster refire rate than most other weapons and the lowest power consumption. So, as a result, I destroy the foes faster with this weapon than any other.

Ok, nice try. Now... it\'s my turn....

A lot of factors pile up here, but the most important one is the low power consumption, you are able to spray continuously.
I used to have power issues with my old mouse setup and having to use the N key to switch weapons but eversince I got my joystick to work and mapped the particle cannon to my trigger and the beam weapon to my thumb button number 1 I have no power issues anymore.
Simple gun switch in the world, thumb to drain shields, trigger to destroy enemy ship.
I will try the flarebeam today with this setup and see how it goes.

I have already won 2 pvp's against an experienced pvp pilot using this configuration. The extended range of the fusion makes it an ideal weapon for pvp. You shred the opponents shield before he is even in range. The hull is easy after that...

Range or Damage?
Have had a lot of success with the Max-R/Fusion/Excal combo, on a Starmaster frame, with some good bells and whistles.
Is now sorta like AAA (Aerospace Assault Artillery); launch the excals, then go in and knock off the big chunks.
Tried other combinations of laser/particle/missile elements. Fly w/ -3 shields and +3 weapons power bias, and the above mentioned wpns load-out. This seems to work best for me.
In combat/kill contracts, is usually a test of tactics - run whut ya brung - kind of scenario. And yes, there usually are more of them than advertised in the contract/mission brief. Going to have to kick my intel guy in the slats for an underwhelming performance.
Sounds to me like you have a handle on it !
C ya out dere !

I prefer Average for contracts and mission using different tactics depending on the contract or mission....For PvP you have to know your opponents tactics and choose your weapons and tactics accordingly one setup will not nesseceraly work against all experienced players...

I too used the Maxim for a long time but have recently returned to the Banshee.
It hits so hard that the enemy ship cannot hold a bead on you and return fire.
I have used Banshee only and have destroyed Vonarl w/o using the laser with only a few bursts.
Being hit by the Banshee with even a short burst is terribly disconcerting. Try it and you'll see what I mean.
It might not be for everyone and you are limited to short bursts, but if you are sure of a hit, it will do damage.

I didn't even see the vote until now lol.
Voted Average, assuming the Maxim-R is average on range and damage.

Nope. Maxim would go to range being second after the flarebeam.

Went with range. I prefer the Maxim-R entirely because of its range.

It's not so strange really, mostly because getting hit will reduce your energy and therefor your abillity to shoot back.
So being able to hit your opponents first is the way to win fights.

Range or Damage?
Haven't really though about it.
Probably something in between. It's annoying blasting and they won't go down. Usually I do a manuover to get behind them and stalks them until they're down. In overall I try to get a strong enough weapon with still decent range.

Behind them? So how do you fight against multiple foes then since you can be 100% sure if you are behind 1 of em the rest is behind you. From post: 102807, Topic: tid=7286, author=yohan89 wrote:Usually I do a manuover to get behind them and stalks them until they're down.

Doing a new test now, I traded my Maxim-R cannons for IceSpear cannons.
Since that extra 50 yards don't really matter to me that much I went with a cannon that has the same range as the Maxim-R but has the same rate of fire as the FlareBeam.
The extra 15 dmg really makes a big difference and same as the FlareBeam I can fire these IceSpear cannons "all day long" without running out of energy.
As it looks now I will leave my configuration like this.

Nice choice Nubarus. I on the other side, prefer the flarebeam because of the extra 50m, because by the time the enemy reaches me, he is out of shields.. The hull is easy to remove after. And the rate of fire is very cool. Makes the beam fire faster..From post: 103034, Topic: tid=7286, author=Nubarus wrote: Since that extra 50 yards don't really matter to me that much I went with a cannon that has the same range as the Maxim-R but has the same rate of fire as the FlareBeam.

Well, I forgot to write down one other reason.
I hate the "pee pee" sound the flarebeam makes, it sounds more like a toy gun then a big boy laser cannon.
