ArvochA Custom missions and questions

Post by MiaZ »

I have been playing around with the mission builder lately.
Everything seems straight forward enough and I haven't ran into any problems except for understand how to work the timed events.

Specifically Warping in ships or uncloaking ships at the desired times.

I can bring up text messages ok but I am wanting to do an escort with fighters warping in at different times.

The readme in the Arvoch Alliance MissionEditor folder doesn't really go into any detail about timed events.

I am kind of stuck on this and haven't been able to find any more info about it.

Any help from someone who has used the mission editor would be appreciated.

You just need to set the event type to 3 (warp in) or 5 (decloak), then in the 'Event Data' field list the ID's for the ships you want to warp in separated by commas (ie 1253,1254,1255). The ships need to be created in the ship menu and be available for actions applied to them.

oh ok. I understand how that works now.
I knew it must have been something simple like that I was missing.

Many thanks!

 Hey, MiaZ ... if you come up short of story ideas, ask SeeJay. He has a good part of one story sitting on the back burner because it jumped from place to place (and, therefore, couldn't be scripted for a Mercenary quest without first making major revisions to the story line).

I haven't got up to thinking much about the story yet.
Still trying to come up with interesting but challenging missions.

I am very slow to think things out.
Still having troubles with the editor. : (
My mind just doesn't work like it used to.

It took me awhile to figure out when ships warp in they do it at the current waypoint. lol
I was trying to get ships warping in from different angles towards closer or further from different ships. I guess I could step through waypoints but not sure how to do that other then by number of kills at each WP.
It would be a multi waypoint patrol rather then an escort but would still fail if the escorted ship is destroyed, so i guess the effect would be the same in the end.

Getting the escort mission to end?
There is the timed event "win mission(8)" but it doesn't give me a "mission complete" message.
Something needs to be put into the event date box?
The only way i could end it was by making it a patrol and it will end after number of reds killed but I know that's not the right way to to it.

It turns out I have quite a few questions about things I dont understand.

What would be really good for someone like me (not too bright) would be a few more
example missions in txt format so I can look inside, poke around and learn from them without having to come back and ask so many questions.

 Is there an "escort" mission option (I don't remember)? If not, what you do is set a course for capital ships and then set a time for when they warp out. Put the time limit in the dialogue so your player knows when to dock with the carrier. (If the player fails to dock before the clock runs out, the mission is kind of left in Limbo and needs to be re-done.) Then add the enemy ships, giving each wave a time to enter the scenario.

 Okay, I just finished skimming through the Expanded Readme for AA ... yes, there is an Escort mission. But it still requires a lot of scripting, using the Mission Editor. The best advice I can give is to follow the expanded version of the ReadMe, step by step.

There is an Expanded Readme for AA?
I know there is a readme for the mission editor, is that that one you mean?

There is an escort mission from the editor I know but if I use it I cant finish the mission.
After reaching the time when transport warps out and have killed all the reds , how to get the "mission complete" message?

So far I've done it by number of kills but I know I am not understand it right. There is an event "win mission" but I dont know who to use it properly.
Maybe its because I need to be docked before the "win mission" event? Cant remember if I tried that yet... umm

Oh, ok I did a search and found that "expanded version of the ReadMe"
Thanks:) I didn't know it existed before now.

Read through this one..
http://www.starwraith.com/forum/viewtop ... #pid119598
... but it didn't really tell me much about the escort problem.
There was useful info there though..

 IIRC, you won't get a "mission completed" message until you script a follow-on mission and link it to the current mission.

Ok,.. I am back for more questions :)

The ACE missions...
I did put in a name under the "Required name" but I dont see anything
in the game to show the one that is the ACE.

Tried putting in the normal type names... I.G.T or whatever like that.
Ends up being just like any other single waypoint patrol.
There has got to be something simple I am missing again?

:o I'm on the wrong computer right now so I can't check the Editor but ... is "Ace" one of the mission options? Maybe, but it doesn't seem logical since Arvoch Alliance is pretty much exclusive to the war between Federation and Alliance (at first) and then between Humans and Vonari.
