SeeJay's Evochron Website - Updates

Post by SeeJay »

Hi all.

I thought that it would be a good idea to start a new fresh thread regarding my
Tribute website devoted to Evochron where I can post updates of importance.

Also any suggestions / feedback is appreciated if you want more stuff added / changed.

My intentions from the beginning was to create a simple map over the Evochron Mercenary
Universe, but it evolved and includes a bit more data than that.;)

Any pilot that wants his/hers Evochron related material published/hosted is welcome
to do it on my site. I got plenty of room there.

The latest addition is a section for Arvoch Alliance and I will start filling it up
with materials that I have already got from Marvin.

I will create a section for every StarWraith game that needs it if any of you have
any stuff for the older games.

Even if I don't fly as much now as I used to do, the site will remain and be updated
when needed to.

I will most likely do a little work on the site to clean it up a bit and make it a bit
less cluttered.

Questions:
1 - Can I remove the Blue buttons with all the objects in separate lists?
(Replace it with an Excel file with Filters instead for download)

2 - Is creating buttons with different colors for each game a good idea?

3 - Any suggestions to improve the site is much appreciated.

 For the Home Page, you might want to see if Vice will let you use graphics similar to those on this page:

http://www.starwraith.com/index.htm

;) Except with a different objective: from there, we could click on whatever section we want.

Thanks for the feedback people.

I'm working on it now but I need to put it on hold for a bit.
Another web-design project will be finished first. (For a paint-artist).

Will continue once that one is finished.

I do need some help if anyone out there knows where to get/how to make a calender like this one:
http://paintpartiesstudios.com/wilmington/calendar
The important thing is to have a small image showing on the day of the event and functions like the
one in the link when you enter an event. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks again everyone.

Hi all.

A friend of mine created a new sound track and gave me permission to publish it in this community.
It's called Outback and is found here: http://evochron.junholt.se/menus/downloads.htm

There is both a mp3 so you can check it out and a .ogg file for EM use.

If Vice likes it and are interested, maybe he could create some tracks for future updates/games?

Enjoy.

Website tutorial section is now updated with 8 videos by Mecingo.

They are in flv format.

If you have problems viewing them, just let me know and I'll try to embed then on the page instead.

Thanks Mecingo for making them and DaveK for finding them and handing them over.

Hope they help a bit!;)

SeeJay's Evochron Website - Updates

Post by light487 »

Hi,

Thanks for the updates. I'll be sure to have a look at the videos when I am not at work. In the meantime, are there any highly detailed combat tutorials that are written out? I know the basics like what you have on your website but I am wondering about other things. For example, you angle yourself so you don't go directly at the enemy and fly with inertial on.. but what do you do when you fly past them? Do you turn the IDS back on and then get up to a certain speed and switch interial back on again? How fast should I be going when I am approaching them? 500mps? 1000mps? I've heard of people saying 1500 to 1800 mps because 1800 is the limit of missile speed but most enemies won't have the fastest, so 1500 is fast enough..

After my first combat (the first IMG navy mission), I've found that the "basics" are just scratching the surface when it comes to combat in this game and I need more "study" material so I can get my head around it rather than simply guessing and using trial and error.

 If you turn IDS back on once you're maybe 1200km away from the swarm, it will center your thrust vector ... making it easier to adjust your next approach. Just remember if you've turned IDS is on or off ... 'cause an approach to a swarm of enemy ships (especially if it includes a cap ship) can get really hairy if you mistakenly think you've re-engaged inertial ... engaging afterburner and wondering why you keep coasting to a stop.

Yer.. that would suck.. :)

So, you use the afterburner too even though your moving fast with inertial ?

 Personally, I do what's posted above ... turn off inertial when I turn around, let the vector center, then turn inertial back on and use afterburner to pick up speed. Normally, I leave my throttle completely off during combat ... which is why it can get really hairy if I hit the space bar one too many times.

Ahh I see.. so you don't use the IDS to provide the speed. That's what I have been doing:

1. Point to the left (or right) of an outside enemy.
2. Set IDS X5 to max speed.
3. When it reaches around 1500 to 1800 mps, turn Inertial on.
4. After going past the enemy, turn IDS back on and wait for the "forward" speed to get back to 1500-1800mps again, then switch IDS off (Inertial on) again.

Is there a flaw to this method that I am not understanding?

I normally fly in Inertia mode all the time in combat.
(Using IDS on for quick changes in direction if needed)

I use the inertia thrusters and afterburner to keep circling the group.
Using movement in the Y-axis (Up/Down) is very effective against AI ships.
It seems to confuse them a bit LOL!

Speed doesn't have to be over 1800. I normally fly around 1000-1200.
If a missile is chasing you, just face it (going backwards) and take it out with guns, or ignore it if distance to it
is good. It will explode before reaching you! (Unless you accelerate towards it:P)

Hope it helps a bit.

I have started the design-phase of the new website.

Now is the time to bring any suggestions up if you people have any.

In the mean time you can listen to a tune a friend created:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezLJfV9J ... e=youtu.be

He is the one that created the tracks for different threat levels available on my site.
I will make this track available as well.

I decided to release the site while I'm working on it to get feedback in time
so I don't have to redo the whole site.
Here's the link: http://evochron2.junholt.se

It's a project in progress so please let me know if anything should change now.
(Font size, new sub-sections etc.)

Hope you like it!;)
