Please vote for the controller you use to play Evochron with (if you use a gamepad or joystick, please post which model you use):

Even match for now, 50% - 50%... but that's only 2 votes... BTW, I also use the Nostromo n50 speedpad.

Mouse atm, but its worth pointing out that up until this point i'dve used an MS Sidewinder out of habit.
I've got a broken hand at the moment (ouch!) so the mouse / keyboard option is waaay easier to use. Having said that, i'm actually really liking mouse control (didnt think I would in a space sim) and when hand #2 comes online again I can't see me going back to J'stick, for EvoA anyway.

Hi

I can't vote, because I use equally a saitek st290 on my main machine, and a joytek game pad on my laptop.

Thrustmaster CheapAss. A low-end 4-button Thrustmaster joystick with hat switch and throttle stick. Pots seem good.

Well thats obvious isn't it - since the st290 is the one _I_ use, it has to be the best;)

Chris

Ps I also used to have a thrustmaster, until My wife got me the st290 - it was a nice heavy stick, but I haven't looked back since. She got it for about £35 (I think). A week or 2 later, I found the same stick for £14 ish.

The moral of the story - never buy ANY computer hardware until next week!

Hey Tiger,

It seems to me that you've had that moral for quite some time... and weeks - based on this post you made once: Tiger's moral applied in daily life :P

Too bad huh, but I thought that the guys here who were around when you posted that will definetly remember it... That steering wheel was far to impressive to be easily forgotten...

Hey! I can answer the controller question. The Saitek X series of controllers are the most powerful, programmable, controller ever made.
The first one was the X36F for DOS 3.1. they are very hard to find.
The next was the X36. It was built for Win95 and up. It was all black and ready for work. They can still be found on E-bay and around $35.00US is a fair price. Software downloads for all Saitek controllers is still available on the 'net.
After that, was the X45. It offers an 8 way 'hat' switch and three 4 way as well as lites and multicolor design. The X45 can be found on E-bay and remanufactured ones can be had, on occassion at the Saitek store. Around $45.00US is normal.
Currently, the X52, is the latest model. There is no improvement in the number of swithces, but the base is slightly larger and there are more 'bells and whistles', none of which you will ever likely use. It lists for about $130.00US.
Programming the later X series controllers can be a 'bear', but if I can do it, you folks can. All Vice's games are designed for the Saitek and programming is not necessary. The X45 can also be found on Ebay at a reduced price. I must advise that due to the increased popularity of this controller, prices may be higher.
Saitek has service centers all over the globe and they have always repaired or replaced mine. Out of warranty repairs around $35.00US.
You cannot buy a better controller and will not regret it.

There are also some minor (or to some, not so minor) differences in the X52. The roll axis is on the stick instead of the finger paddles on the throttle like the X36 and X45 has (so that might either be good news or bad news for you). The main trigger has two stages for multiple function assignment. The MFD on the X52 lets you toggle between game profiles on the fly. The X52 is also an optical (no rubbing contact) controller, which should provide for long term reliability (so far, mine's had no problems at all). And if for some reason, you need more axis channels and buttons, the X52 has 17 button functions on the stick and 4 on the throttle along with 8 axis channels/rotary controls (not including the built-in mouse control stick and button).

Having given great thought, and a good deal of financial input, I've decided to upgrade.

Here's a picture of my new machine.

Chris

(PS - I really DID have ione of these - actually put it together myself, when I was about Rami's age )

Hey Skeeter! Just who do you think that is standing next to the PC? I traded that in for the one I'm using now!:P I had trouble installing Windows.

Btw, Vice, I checked my pilot stats and I am rated 176. Please tell me 177 people have bought the game!:(

The server won't hold that many scores, it only posts the top 50. And there are only 12 listed scores at the moment (some pretty old). Seems hardly anyone is posting their stats (although there are plenty looking, lol). I'm guessing 176 is your rating, not your stats rank.

I recently bought a Thrustmaster Cougar. The damn thing is heavy. Unfortunatelly due to RL issues, I still haven't learned how to programme it.
