Increasing Civ and Mil ranks

Post by DaveK »

I've recently got interested in Civ and Mil ranks - ever since I joined [HB]:)

I've looked in the manuals and searched the threads but there are some things I either can't find or find conflicting views on.

Can anyone (Vice perhaps ;) ) answer the following definitively:

I get Mil points for each waypoint of each contract - but do I get any Mil points for kills within contracts? If yes, do joint kills count (when more than one ship is hammering the poor V pilot? :P) or is it only kills that I make with no-one else shooting at the target hostile at the same time?

I get Civ points for contracts and for the quantity of money I amass. If I spend/lose/give away lots of money, will my civ ranking reduce?

Is there a list anywhere of which Mil ranks are necessary for having access to particular Mil frames. I'm having a mid-life crisis and want to swan around in an Evoch - E and would like to know what rank I need to achieve. Bleve recommends the FireStar and I'd like to give it a test drive . . . But I'd also like to know which ranks have access to which frames right through the system

:)

Q:If I spend/lose/give away lots of money, will my civ ranking reduce?
A:Yes, but by the time you reach Legend you'll have so much money It is very unlikely to fall.

Q:but do I get any Mil points for kills within contracts?
A:believe its 1 point per ten kills

reaching the rank of commander gives you access to all frames. Lt. Cmdr gives you the Evoch C, which isn't a quantum leap away from the E.
Hope this helps somewhat.

Once you reach a certain Civillian rank you will not loose that rank if you spend all your money.
It is like when you achieve a certain title in real live you do not loose that title because you are broke. You might be out of money but you are still an Expert or Veteran or Legend.....;)

You get 1 point for every 10 kills you made towards your ranking. What counts is who made the final shot that destroyed the enemy I think. You can test this out by doing a combat mission with more then 30 enemies and count how many you destroy and if you reach 10 see if one poiint was added to your ranking.;)

Thanks Dingo - I've got Lt Commander now and the Evoch looks like a reasonable ship to start practicing with. Commander rank is in sight! I'll concentrate on getting that and then the (military) world is my oyster in terms of goodies!

Thanks Maarschalk.

The final shot makes sense, though if two of us as hitting the guy it will be a lottery! :P

If I do several smaller combat missions (more likely as a solo) and manage to take out 10 over the course of the missions will that count or do they all have to be in the same mission?

:)

wrt Civ rank - two experienced and respected pilots - two answers, though the real outcome is the same! :D:D

Giving away credits, spending credits, or how ever you reduce your current cash balance, only has an impact on the civ rating number. Not on the civ status rate/rank. Yes, all the above, rank once attained, it's yer'n. Granted, civ rate/rank designates must be earned through "honest" (hehehe) efforts and the amount of point credits earned. Contract/mission completions, mining, sweet trade runs, your ship, kills accomplished - ALL contribute their "shares" to those attainable goals. 1 pt per 10 kills, 1 pt for completing single-tasked contrs/msns regardless of kills (Escorts still pay the same). 1 pt per 100 kilocreds earned per cycle. Multi-points for completion of multi way-point contrs/msns. (ie: Do 3, get 3) Suggest on/in co-ops, end result is contract/mission completion for all working the schtick; again, regardless of kills. (Don't count yer chickens a'fore they's hatched :)) Point credits accrue by way-points completed, even should you or another buy the plot. However, this may also (still) end the contract/mission, depending on the principle pilot in/on that contr/msn. Should the wp contr/msn still be active when you re-spawn, jump back in! Ya still get credit fer the kills you make. Then jist kill 'em ALL !!! :P:P:P:P:P:P :cool:

Busch is right, your points for your Civil ranking is linked to your cash credit, contracts and kills. So if you never did any contracts or made any kills and just did mining and trade runs and made 5 billion in credits you will be a Legend. Now if you spend all that 5 billion credits you will still be a Legend and still have the ranking points acrued through trading although you will have 0 credits to spend. I think you loose only the points in the number that you made over the 5 billion mark
or over any previous achieved rank so your rank status will never go down to a previous rank/status but your number rating will drop to your last number of your last achieved rank status
I believe. Never tried it though on credits alone!.......;):P:P:P:P:P:P

 Once you achieve a civvy rank, you can't be demoted ... even if you go broke. But you won't be able to advance in rank until you reach the necessary level. In other words, you'll need to build up your riches again ... and then increase them to where you'd need to have increased them had you not gone broke in the first place.

It's why the mil pilots have always sneered about civi being able to "buy" their way to the top civi frames where poor mil pilots have to "earn" the mil frames the hard way :P

True, come to think about it, with all that fortune amassed from civi ranks, you can really start your own private war LOL with anyone clan or otherwise lol but I'm sure that has happened already lol. :D

Military-frame pilots can "buy" their way a well. 1 cgo bay and 8 secondary weapon slots make for a tidy trade run, if'n they's willin'. (snicker, chortle, giggle - HINT!) :P:P:P

Better ships suitable for pvp unless there are pilots here who pvp with civvy ships. :D

Civvy ships used to be fine in PvP, but with the military frame boost they became a liability. That said, beating an opponent using a mammoth or a starmaster is hardly unheard of, even now. Those frames can achieve decent agility with high level wings systems, have decent armor, and can repair much faster than a mil ship with comparable hull since they can use an engineer.

That said I'm sticking to me evoch. Now if only I could paint it.

How about a Legacy? Used to fly one, was gonna outfit it just for pvp until I lost my profile and started from scratch LOL.

Would seriously reconsider using a Legacy for PvP. Depends on the competition though. Plus, a death will only result in a respawn, so you can always try it.

I'm creating a collection of Evochron myths. For each myth I can provide personal evidence to prove it is a myth :)

Myth: although losing money reduces your civilian points (it does), once you have reached a particular rank you keep it even if your civilian points score drops below the threshold for that rank (not true)

I reached Veteran (just) - on my next trade run the buying cycle took my points back below 7499 - result: demoted back to Superior :(

I traded for a bit more and got comfortably into Veteran score (7640) and then deliberately lost money by buying expensive gear and then jettisonning it until my score dropped below 7499 - result: demoted back to Superior :(

Moral - make sure you're very well into a rank if you plan to live off your earning for a while or plan to splash out on a new frame or two! :D:D:D:D

That is interresting. I do not know if this was also the case in Evochron Legends. And maybe the demoting only applies to any rank below Legends. Because I had a profile with Legends rank reaching the 5 billion in credit mark and then lost some credits which made me drop below the 5 billion mark and I still was a Legend!

This makes me think the demotion is probably more related to your points and reputation. Cause if your reputation is bad meaning you do not have that many points your rank will fluctuate at the border treshhold of points.

Say for example you had 8000 points accumulated by contracts and kills your Veteran Status would not be affected by trade as much. Now if you reached 8000 points by trading alone meaning your reputation is still hostile in many systems then I would suspect your ranking will drop by trading unwisely.

I think Vice uses a formula which includes contracts/missions, trade/credits, kills and reputation. So some high points of one or more of the elements of the equation might keep you from getting demoted by losing points from one of the other elements.....;)

It's obviously more complicated that just cash. You can't lose contract credit points which is why I suspect Mil promotions are "safe", but since Veteran needs 7500 points and a kill or a contract only generate a point or so but 100million generates 250 points, and a lot of people get to Legend very quickly, they must get there via £££ mainly. Hence they can drop points quite quickly if they spend lots of money.

You are correct in thinking that just losing money isn't the answer. It is the points I was looking at - I dumped enough money to drop the points below 7500 and that is when the civ rank dropped. Did you check your point count at 5 billion to see if it was less than 9999? If it was still above then you would remain a Legend!:D
