How to Follow another player on an mp server

Post by Randolf Mayhem »

I am trying to figure out how two human players can link up and follow each other as they travel. I have used the link up featuure, but as soon as one of us jumps to another location the connection between the players is lost. This make it extremely hard to follow each other long distances.

What is the best way to link up and follow each other while flying including jumping to new locations?

This feature used to work but now that we are playing on a server and with the newestest update, it no longer seems to work.

The only "link" available is for one person to be the pilot and the other player serves as turret gunner, and that link is automatically broken if the pilot jumps out of the sector. It has always been this way. There is no link that allows one player to follow another player from sector to sector and never was.
Two or more players can agree to jump to another sector and meet at a predetermined point, but there is no way and never was, to "follow" another pilot once a jump is initiated.

The gunner link doesn't work like that, though the clan link will show each others location within the same sector.
If you are in same clan you will see each other as a little green dot on the nav map as long as you're both in the same sector.

For jumps to other sectors I think you'll just have to use the tilde key and just watch where the other jumps to then follow manually.

Like Miaz says, If you have the same clan tag you can track each other as you jump from sector to sector by pressing the tilde key and see your fellow clan jumped location and then jump to the same sector and look for the green dot on your Nav Map.....;)

Another way you can travel with another player across large distances is to synchronize your jumps. Simply agree on the destination coords, enter the coords in your nav map then count down and launch autopilot simultaneously with each other. You will then both emerge from each jump more or less at the same time until you reach the destination. It's extremely good fun travelling like this with another player, but you have to have the same class of jump drive and you'll need to adjust your power settings to make sure that your not jumping too soon or too late.

Me, MCCON and Atollski did it the way MCCON describes it. It was great fun.
We didn't have the exact same ship config and I travelled a little faster.

I adjusted my Energy slightly so that the time to recharge jumpdrive took a bit
longer and compensated for my faster speed.;)

Thank you all for replying to this thread...I really apprecaite it. I guess I was mistaken and just thought this feature was there to jump together. I like these ideas and thank you for helping us figure this out.
