Celebrating 40 years since moon landing.

Post by Karmasaur »

In about seven and a half hours from the time of this posting, it is the 40 year anniversary of the first moon landing.

All of the moon landings since the first one, were certifiable, but this first one was under a lot of scrutiny. Certain parts of the film footage raised questions, regarding the authenticity of the first moon landing. For example, several of the fotos, showed the little refference cross hairs (which are on the lens of the camera) going behind the subject being fotographed. Another critisism was the way the wind shook the american flag in such a thin atmosphere. There were also a series of fotos that clearly show objects casting two sets of shadows, as if the sun were in two places at once.

I recently saw a program on television, that had no less than 57 critisism of the first moon landing. Some of the issues showed clear forgeries, while some of them could be chalked up to poor "bookkeeping". An example of the latter, would be fotos supposedly taken several miles apart from each other, having the exact same rock formations in the near background. These could be intentional fakes, or simply just sloppy labeling of time and place.

Everyone has an oppinion. I find myself somewhere in the middle. Just because a significant amount of the dokumetation was clearly forged, does not necessarily mean, in my oppinion, that the whole mission was counterfeit. I think the public relations department just wanted to "help", in a time when the cold war was coldest, and the russians had been first at Sputnik (first satelite), Laika (first creature in space), Gagarin (first man in space), and Leonov (first EVA). NASA was pressed to perform well.
Just my personal guess, after having seen that documentary.

Since then, successful missions have placed instruments on the surface of the moon that we still use today. No question men have landed there. Its just a question of when. If you believe in the first landing, as I do, then happy 40th anniversary!

Do not always believe everything you hear, see, smell. The mind is an easy thing to trick!

But I believe in the first Landing! Happy 40th!:cool::cool::cool::cool:

Note that a *lot* of media entities and productions, including television documentaries, photos (INCLUDING major newpapers and news outlets, but especially "internet based news"), and so forth... INCLUDING otherwise "reliable" sources of news and facts - have themselves been known to present "fake evidence" in order to further an agenda, or simply to sensationlize things to boost sales and marketing. Some otherwise respectable journalists have been known to produce propaganda, rather than "pure reporting". Far more than most people realize. The memories of the population at large is very short.

I'm not saying that anyone who doubts the authenticity of the first moon landing and presents critical evidence to support their claim is "right" or "wrong".

It IS a fact that some entities... the US Military, sometimes *certain agencies* in the US government... do a TERRIBLE job of "standing up for themselves". They don't bother most of the time, even if they are "right".

In the "psychology of organizations"; if "YOU" (such as NASA) are "right", and most of the population "agrees with you", and a few "doubt you", "rub it in", "present fake photos"... then "they" are just crackpots and conspiracy theorists, and you just don't acknowledge them. But segments of the population might INTERPRET that as a "suspicious denial".

Herc never lifted the earth. You are thinking of Atlas, the titan. He stood on the top of olympus, the mythical home of the gods, and shouldered the planet (if I remember correctly)

I've always wondered how that little tin can got through the Van Allen radition belt with no harm to anyone in it.

I've also often wondered why, if the US had managed to put multiple platforms on the moon, that they suddenly abandoned it. It just isn't the US way - whenever the US gets its foot in the door, it takes over the living room, and never leaves.

Lots of other stuff, but, what the hell. A bit like the neutron bomb! Good PR though.

It#s true, I've spent the last 3 years in a large wooden boat going over a waterfall that does not seem to end. I'm hoping we have entered into orbit, but I'll only be able to confirm this once I get a good shot of the turtles undercarriage .................................

oh BTW as part of a Hindu family, that's only one myth................

Leonard of Quirm designs the Discworld's second known spacecraft to slingshot under the Discworld and back around top to land on Cori Celesti, the mountain home of the gods ... After a few mishaps including landing on the moon – in the hope that it will have sufficient oxygen to replenish their supplies ... and nearly having their swamp dragon powered spaceship (named "The Kite") explode on them, they crash in a spectacular fashion at Cori Celesti.

I highly commend Discworld to all of you. What a wonderful satire. Too bad Terry Pratchett is showing signs of Alzheimer's...

Oh, and if the moon landing was a fake, hundreds if not thousands of people would be complicit in the lie. I almost think it would cost more to create that kind of hoax than it did to actually land the Eagle on the moon in the first place.

...but everyone loves a good conspiracy theory. It gets the blood flowing.

but time and chance happen to them all...

the living should take this to heart...

This is somewhat relevant to the original topic (at least some of it is). Walter Cronkite just passed away (in ham radio terminology, he "just went SK" ... he is a "silent key"... ); as it happens, he was an amateur radio operator ("ham radio operator"). His callsign was KB2GSD.

I am on the ARRL mailing list. (My own call is AD5WY... first licensed as KA1NLE, then N1EZW, and AD5WY... also when I was stationed in Berlin I had a German callsign DA2YO.) Here are excerpts from a bulletin I just recieved... I won't paste all of it, but some of it is relevant to the topic:

SB SPCL @ ARL $ARLX010
ARLX010 WALTER CRONKITE, KB2GSD (SK)

ZCZC AX10
QST de W1AW
Special Bulletin 10 ARLX010
From ARRL Headquarters
Newington CT July 20, 2009
To all radio amateurs

SB SPCL ARL ARLX010
ARLX010 WALTER CRONKITE, KB2GSD (SK)

Legendary CBS newsman Walter Cronkite, KB2GSD, who held the title of
''Most Trusted Man in America,'' passed away Friday, July 17 after a
long illness. He was 92. The avuncular Cronkite anchored the CBS
Evening News for 19 years until 1981 when he retired. During that
time, he reported on such subjects as the Kennedy assassinations,
the Civil Rights movement, the Apollo XI lunar landing, Vietnam and
the Vietnam-era protests, the Arab-Israeli Six Day War, Watergate
and the Begin-Sadat peace accords.

Cronkite, an ARRL member, narrated the 6 minute video ''Amateur Radio
Today'' . Produced by the ARRL in 2003,
the video tells Amateur Radio's public service story to non-hams,
focusing on ham radio's part in helping various agencies respond to
wildfires in the Western US during 2002, ham radio in space and the
role Amateur Radio plays in emergency communications. ''Dozens of
radio amateurs helped the police and fire departments and other
emergency services maintain communications in New York, Pennsylvania
and Washington, DC,'' narrator Cronkite intoned in reference to ham
radio's response on September 11, 2001. ''Their country asked, and
they responded without reservation.''

....

One of Cronkite's enthusiasms was the space race. In 1969, when
America sent a man to the moon, he couldn't contain himself. ''Go
baby, go.'' he said as Apollo XI took off. He ended up performing
what critics described as ''Walter to Walter'' coverage of the mission
-- staying on the air for 27 of the 30 hours that astronauts Buzz
Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were on the moon. In 2006, NASA honored
Cronkite by giving him their Ambassador of Exploration Award. ''His
marathon, live coverage of the first moon landing brought the
excitement and impact of the historic event into the homes of
millions of Americans and observers around the world,'' NASA said in
a news release announcing the award. Cronkite was the first
non-astronaut and only NASA outsider to receive the award.

.....

As Cronkite said on March 6, 1981, concluding his final broadcast as
anchorman: ''Old anchormen, you see, don't fade away, they just keep
coming back for more. And that's the way it is.''
