Bug report thread?

Post by MasterMindLess »

I couldn't think of another place to put this, so...

I found a bug in version 1.288.
On mission 18, when I hit "Reccomend Ships & Weapons", it suggested to me a Razor with a Phantom Cannon and and Excalibur missile pack. I hit "Launch", just to see what it would do, and it let me use the Excalibur!

(And, as you probably all know, the Razor only has 5 hardpoints.)

Bug? Sounds like your flight crew got creative and figured out a way to weld an Excalibur to a Razor :) Will be fixed shortly...

Sure, Jeremy, as soon as I can pry them out of the Excalibur-loaded Razors they're in (It makes the cockpit a bit cramped, you know;)).

Now, you may ask what my flight crew are doing in fighters (so would I), but... let's just say I had to fly alone for a while....:P

And, when they finally got back, the rest of Alpha Wing was rather... upset.:P

Actually, Jeremy, considering the wing's current mood, when the crew finally comes out of those Razors (They're still fiddling with them), they'll most likely be promptly hospitalized for a few months, so you won't be able to get your hands on them quite yet.;):P

You wouldn't believe what terrible pilots those four were! It was like they'd never been in the cockpit of a fighter before!
Wait.... Maybe they haven't! (What a horrible cocept!):o

I've got another (not sure if it's a bug) problem. :(
I had a custom ship, played a mission with it, but on the next mission, I got a "Runtime Error: ERROR 99" message, and the game closed. I tried with several game types, getting the same thing whenever I tried to start a mission/go into freeform/etc. I got rid of the ship, but the problem persisted. I started a new profile, and it worked fine. Can I fix this? (I have a hatred of doing levels over again if I don't want to...)

Error 99 is a missing object error. If you removed the ship, that wouldn't fix the problem, you'd remove the object the game is looking for. Your best option is to delete the affiliated weapon loadout file (not the pilot profile), then reselect the ships and weapons you want. If you're using the first pilot profile slot, delete weapon0.SW from the \\sw3dg\\arvochconflict directory. The game will then restore the default selections and you can change your configuration as desired.

*sigh*... I've got another one.... :(

When I tried to play Arvoch, this message came up:

System Error: ERROR 164. Could not set a display mode of 640x480x16

What's it mean? How do I fix it? How do I prevent it from happening again?

I have the sw3dg folder in it's original location, so I don't think it has anything to do with that....

Many thanks,

MasterMindLess

Are you sure you pointed the game to the correct directory location after moving it back (by deleting the savedir.txt file)? Sounds like it lost the video settings it had earlier and isn't able to default to 640X480X16. Make sure the savedir file is renamed or deleted and that the sw.cfg in back in the C:\\sw3dg\\arvochconflict folder with the first line set to the video resolution you want.

Yeah... there is no longer a savedir.txt in the Arvoch Conflict folder, and sw.cfg is in the C:\\sw3dg\\arvochconflict folder....

Optimized
32-bit

Just as a side... ".cfg" means "configuration," doesn't it?

Yup on CFG. Sounds like something is either spelled wrong or misplaced. Check the directory names to make sure they are correct. The only time 640X480X16 is used by the game is if nothing else is available or compatible to it using the specified settings. Open the Options menu and click on the various video options to make sure the game recognizes the selected settings (it usually automatically fixes potential errors in the file if it detects anything wrong).

Whoa... That was weird... I didn't do anything, but it worked this time!

I like that automatic error-fixing thing! :P (that is what likely made it work this time, right?)

Thanks, Vice!

There are a lot of error checks and self-correcting routines built into the game, it's possible it kicked in to fix this. But if it happens again, just send me a quick e-mail with your 3D card make and model along with the driver version you're using. Could actually be an issue with drivers.

Vice, I was patently surprised today while flying a Near Moon Intercept mission. I had killed the first cruiser and was banging away on the second. As I circled it, I suddenly noticed something strange.

A few minutes later, it was swallowed completely by the moon neaby, and then emerged from it:

In the picture you can see the backend still inside the moon as it comes out.

Kinda weird, that was.

Yep.

I should have blown it up right then - maybe the moon would have exploded. :D
