Customization feature request

Post by Ludoal »

I'm customizing my HUD and would like to be able to :

- Toggle custom text with a key (or at least hide it in simple HUD mode) ;
- Keep digital (or analog) compass when upper HUD is hidden.

Is it possible to have such switches in relevant customization files ?

As per our e-mail correspondence:

If another objective you have is to hide the upper HUD menu bar and elements, you can optionally place blank textures in place of the ones you want to remove (leaving just a frame and/or shadow you might want for the digital compass), then apply the 'hudtext.txt' file directives for the compass. ‘huddisplays.dat’ can be used to move the control input and output indicators out of view. You might want to leave a few cues just for the menu options, but if not, you can insert a blank texture for the frame and button symbols and replace the ‘b2light#.png’ images with blanks to visually remove those as well.

Another option is to use the ‘Toggle Upper HUD Display On/Off’ option in the key/button controls which can manually switch the upper HUD elements on or off (on page 3 of the 'Key/Button Controls' menu). Here is a tip to keep the digital compass visible when you manually turn off those elements with the key/button option. For the vertical placement value of the digital compass, enter a value of –100000 (negative one hundred thousand). This will direct the game to put the digital compass characters back in view if/when the upper HUD element is manually disabled with the key/button option.

So there are a couple of options to achieve keeping the upper elements out of view. For simplicity, you might prefer to just install blank or reduced image files for a more default behavior and look.
