You have the option to contact NPC ships and order them to drop cargo.
But are there NPC ships that can order you to drop cargo?
Are there NPC pirates that want your cargo or otherwise destroy you?
I haven't encountered them yet.

I have encountered one of them once during the exploration of an uncharted planet near the Gate to RiftSpace. My ship was immobilized and I was ordered to drop the cargo. I refused and killed the renegate.

So, there are pirates in evochron, but an encounter is pretty rare?
I didn't knew they could order you to drop cargo.

How rare is a pirate encounter?

Attacks are based on the routes you take and what locations you pass through where there may be a higher chance of hostile ships willing to risk attacking you for cargo. The 'Attacks by Hostiles for Cargo' option in the Create/Modify profile menu must be checked to enable such attacks and you can set the minimum time between attacks to increase or decrease frequency to your preference.
