Was considering buying, had a few specific questions!

what is the level of Vive support, compared to say Elite:Dangerous?

is there any orbital physics? planet rotation/orbits around stellar bodies?

i remember the systems in evochron mercenary were arranged almost entirely on a 2d plane in space, is that still the case or are they more 3d now?

concerning the terrian generation, is there anything like caves? can you go underwater?

how much has the physics engine changed since mercenary, especially on flying inside of planets atmosphere?

thanks!

With the understanding that you are likely referring to Evochron Legacy:

There is a free demo you can try out most of the elements you referred to above: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronlegacy/downloads.htm

You might also be interested in this development page, which covers many of the changes/differences between EM and EL and the reasoning behind such differences: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronlegac ... opment.htm

Most current information on the state and potential of VR in the game: http://www.starwraith.com/forum/viewtop ... 27&t=13031

Then some brief specific answers to each of your questions:
what is the level of Vive support, compared to say Elite:Dangerous?
In my opinion, Elite is probably one of the best/premiere examples of a VR supporting game. You can try out VR in EL, but it's an unsupported/experimental option. Should still work as of this writing so long as the API hasn't changed to break anything.
is there any orbital physics? planet rotation/orbits around stellar bodies?
There are new and heavily revised physics systems in the new game compared to the previous title, but no planet orbits. Planet rotations, yes.
i remember the systems in evochron mercenary were arranged almost entirely on a 2d plane in space, is that still the case or are they more 3d now?
Mostly level on the SY plane, with some vertical variation of +/- around 2 sectors. Inquiries and player feedback related to navigation over the last several years have cemented this structure (as well as planet behaviors) for the game.
concerning the terrian generation, is there anything like caves? can you go underwater?
No caves, you can go underwater in a terrain walker.
how much has the physics engine changed since mercenary, especially on flying inside of planets atmosphere?
Planet physics (drag, lift, collisions, velocity limits, etc) have probably changed some of the most since the previous game. The development page above will provide further details.
