They are usually cold and taciturn. :-\ They don't answer in in-game chat :)

I suppose it depends on the player. Some ask questions. Some ask for help. Others just play alone or with their buddies, not wanting to be disturbed. Then again, some players aren't aware of how to go about opening the chat window. Or, if the player is prone to getting blown up, he (or she) might prefer to remain incognito out of embarrassment.

In my case, it took me a while to work out how to reply (yep, I'm not very bright at times). ;D And when I did work it out, it took me a while to pluck up courage to contribute to discussions amongst such experienced people (and that was definitely my problem - not the on-line community who are very helpful and welcoming!) Then again I am the man who attacked SeeJay in a station because I thought he was attacking me, when it was actually me who was bumping shields with him. After a 5 second battle and after I'd reloaded 20 seconds later everyone was still laughing, but immediately made me feel very welcome ... and that was the start of my participation. :)

I know for me, the first time I was in MP someone was trying to chat me up and I had no idea how to open the chat window. I had to log out and google it haha. By the time I came back in, the server was empty. Now I know, though.

::) Mistaking a shield for an attack still happens every now and then. Even from the other side of the galaxy you might read in chat where one pilot is accusing somebody of firing without cause ... making it necessary for a veteran to ask if the complaining pilot was close enough to the "offending" pilot to bump him.
