[EL 1.0248] Crashing bug *FIXED*

Post by Phirmware »

After taking a break from the game i decided to come back and am now experiencing a crash bug that I am able to reproduce. I can not think of anything done to my computer that would have drastically effected it's game playing ability. I play many other games, and so far none have ever crashed.

Occasionally the game will crash when loading a pilot, right at the portion where the HUD element gets loaded. Not always, about 25% of the time.

The one I can reproduce 100% of the time occurs when engaging my jump drive. I have been attempting to do the starter faction missions, the game will always crash when I attempt to jump to the asteroid field (Step #2 of the missions).

I just get the Windows popup that says that EL has stopped working and Windows is searching for a solution. No data on what caused the crash. Is there an error log file I can look up to help provide more data?

My system specs:

Windows 10 Home
AMD Radeon R9 280
8 gb DDR3
Intel I-5 3570k

Thanks for any help.

Since you are running Windows 10 and an AMD video card, check to see if you have 'AMD Gaming Evolved' (aka Raptr) running in the background. If so, just turn off that program, then launch and play the game as normal. If that's not it, then yes, a msinfo report sent to me via e-mail will help me pin down the cause for you: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronlegacy/faq.htm#208 No need to include the save game, just the zipped msinfo report.

Thanks for the follow up, glad that sorted it.

If you google 'amd gaming evolved game crash', you can read around the net about various crash issues in a variety of games. The offending module is generally ltc_game32-90652.dll, which has nothing to do with any developer's software that it causes crashes in. The gaming evolved program appears to be trying to hook into games with its own code to perform its operations via that module. And it would appear by doing so, it interferes with games in ways that cause them to crash. It's something that could be reported to them here: http://www.amd.com/report or here: http://support.amd.com/en-us/contact/email-form

AMD knows their software has crash issues with games (refer to their changelog notes in a recent driver update for example: http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-article ... 6.3.1.aspx ) and generally just suggest disabling it when playing as a solution. So I'm not sure how committed they may be to fixing such issues. But reporting it to them and disabling it as they suggest are the options currently available.
