[EL] Science Officer's Pitch Ladder

Post by Marvin »

My science officer kept complaining about the pitch ladder, insisting that the default tic marks made it difficult to set an accurate pitch when searching for cargo. So I made a few adjustments to the default ladder.
  • Changed the tic marks on the left side of the pitch ladder to one-degree increments.
  • Moved the tic marks on both sides closer to the aiming reticle to better align the tic marks with the nose of the ship (allowing for a more accurate adjustment of pitch).
  • Added an X marker* to the center of the 90-degree tic for quick orientation (letting the pilot know when he's headed straight up or straight down).
The one-degree tic marks are only on the left side as another indicator of the ship's orientation: tics on the left, right side up - tics on the right, upside down.

The files (ladder and shadow) are available at SeeJay's website (the ladder was 1k too big to be attached here). Place both of them in your hud file.

* Standard aircraft ADI's usually use a circle but, with so many different monitor resolutions, a circle would probably be visibly distorted on some monitors. A distorted X is, hopefully, less noticeable.

Very nice work, been wanting something like this.

Edit: Trouble with zip file, maybe it's just my downloads. :(

If you have problems with the zip, ask SeeJay to offer it as an unzipped DL ... the ladder is only 48kb and the shadow is even smaller.

Yeah, I can't open either zip file I just downloaded from SeeJay's site. Keeps complaining about multiple volume archive, so strange.

Hm, I just downloaded and installed with no issue.
I've rar'd each one and attached to get them under the single file limit.

Let me know if you need .zip instead.

Great! Thanks!

And Thanks to Marvin for making this. It's literally exactly what I wanted, but don't know enough about how to make it on my own.

Eventually this thread will sink into obscurity ... so, if SeeJay's download is corrupt, it really should be fixed (for future science officers).

Marvin is right, I didn't have an issue with Seejay's download, that's where those came from. I just tried it again and it worked fine. I used WinRAR to open the archive and it loaded fine. Not sure why it's breaking for some. Could AV be somehow blocking the file? It's an archive of some images so it doesn't make much sense why it would though.

Oh and Marvin, I am loving it, thanks!

 Right. No .exe file. And YW. When it comes to mods, I'm not good at much ... but I've had practice with the pitch ladder in EM.

I just tried downloading from my work computer. No problems! Very weird. I'll check anyway tonight and upload a new file just in case.

Maybe it's AVG or chrome on my end, will check.

Edit: Same result with firefox. :(

Edit2: Problem is with Windows10's internal zip file manager, 7zip opened archives just fine. :)

No wonder Microsoft gave Windows10 for free as upgrade, otherwise no one in right mind would pay for the buggy OS from windows7.

I like it, probably won't use it myself though I don't even have a pitch ladder. it is intrusive, that said could probably scale it.

 The target arrows (with tails) seen in the screen shot can also be found at SeeJay's website. Green for friend, red for foe, yellow for in-between and blue-gray for objects.

I've been using those also, improved aquisition speed greatly. Much easier to whip around and aim at the next hostile.
