Hud tape mode

When modding the hudtape in EL, the tape turns to black and white instead of the original colored tape shown in UN-modded game. Is there a way to get a copies of the colored tape and others to edit? Thanks.

Have you tried a modded tape from EM to see what happens? :)

I just rotated my hudtape 90 degr and changed the size to match the new format. Works like a charm.

I'll upload my hudtape and compass for anyone to use.

What's the name of that free paint-like program? With an icon that looks like a fox or something. With it you can change the tint ... highlight a section and make the change.

Sounds like a good program to have. It is "GIMP"? I goggled it.

Ouch! Back to school to learn this program. :( I think I tried it before but will give it ago again. Thanks Marvin.:)

Just using the "colorize" option without picking a color added a bluish tint so all is good. :)

Ah, the good old Generic Image Manipulation Program. A great free alternative to some of the more expensive image and photo editing programs. Gotta love the GNU.

Three methods of adjusting color/tint ... I usually use the one with just the three sliders.

You know I ran into this exact issue with my center display image and I though I have tried I can't for the life of me figure out why a modified image sets the bottom where the colour icons used to be greyscale.

I triple checked the original file in the Legacy mod kit sample pack the image is 256x256 with a greyscale colour mode in photoshop CC. My image is also exactly the same all I did was use the standard selection box to select the bottom bar and "cut to new layer" I assure you there are no ALPHA traces in my image as in the background is all black I used layers to create everything over the background and its all greyscale exactly like the original. So yep I am pretty dumbfounded as to why the colour is gone. I am completely aware the original uses greyscale in order to know whats colour and what is alpha. Every other HUD element works perfect except this center display image.

When I say colour even the HUD colour changer in game does not work on the bottom part of the image.

To answer the OP's question though, just make sure your image is set to greyscale colour only. You can change the opacity or simply use a brush with darken mode instead of normal colour to darken the white which will make it faded in game then save it as .png for the shadow just invert the new image and you are set the hud colour will work fine. Just pay attention to the fact that you can't have an area of the image transparent or it willl just turn black :).

I don't use a grey-scale. I save the hudtape in color and it works like a charm. And adding the shadow tape as well.

I just figured out that I need to add a bit of color (via paint) before I can use the Colorize function in Gimp as it only works with RGB not grey scale or so it says. Any way it works when I do this.

I use the same method as SeeJay. Normally, I drag an image from the Customizing Kit, load it to MS Paint to make my changes ... then re-save it (not "Save as" since you then lose transparency), load it to GIMP to add color ... then use the "overwright" (or whatever it's called) option to save as the original .png file. So far, so good. For shadows, I simply use Paint's "invert color" option and re-save.
