Total blind was something I also suggested but Vice I don't think wanted to do it. I suggested that the operator needs the choice if they want to turn location completely off. I think Vice actually put that into the server as an option, there as a rather big debate about it some time during the debate about the duel button input binds build.

So yea I would over the moon for the complete blind forced and a blended method where the server is blind but the player has the final say if they echo location but this only happens if they toggle it on themselves and it only effects that player so players have the choice in the blended mode if they want to ping for help or stay completely blind. Pinging for help doesn't mean you see everyone it means everyone sees you and only you along with anyone else also having it enabled.

I have no problem with the ping feature and would not object to its remaining. But I would at this point pay additional to the developer for a server build that kills automatic location information broadcast. If those who oppose this build being constructed would like to attempt to outbid me (with verified funds, of course - none of this eBay garbage), well, I guess they can attempt to do so.

But yeah, I'll pay money to stick it to that little [delete]. I like upsetting [deleted]. It's easy and it's productive. Way better than being some griefing little [deleted] who's so thoroughly upset with his lot in reality that he has to go bothering people in a video game. Thank God people like that generally lack the means, power and social standing to actually be like that in Meatspace...

I know why you are mad.. I don't personally think throwing money at it is a solution albeit these jerks deserve to get roasted hard I have been in these situations before. However Iron Man and a few of the guys on DarkStar have a pretty good idea whom you refer about and he's getting what's due. I don't think Iron Man is rather happy with this fella either.

Just a reminder:
Board Rules: 2 - Do not post obscene, offensive, or harmful content. This includes, but is not limited to, sexual content, pornography, vulgarity, illegal activities, extreme violence, or malicious programs. Do not post links to such content. Be kind to others. Do not insult anyone or their work. This includes name calling, belittling, or making insulting objective assertions using subjective criteria. Do not harass, use foul language (this includes acronyms and alternate spellings), or threaten anyone. Don't ruin this service for other people, it exists to discuss gaming (which is supposed to be fun). If you either take gaming so seriously that you just can't let others enjoy their experience or just want to badmouth something or someone, don't post.
This is not the place to air your discontent with one player or one server. Each server operator has options and, if one server doesn't offer the options you want, try another. Or contact the server operator via U2U and discuss the matter.

Other than that, I strongly suggest that the author of a couple of the above posts does a bit of editing. The proper sentiment can be expressed without violating board rules.

Nope. There's no need for you to edit your posts. From what I can tell, you haven't violated any of the board rules.

That garbage belongs on a lesser game, to be done to a lesser community. But CS-[deleted] ain't goin' anywhere, so I'm all in favor of anything that makes that [deleted] life miserable.

And I do mean ANYTHING. I'd be over the moon if the developer figured out a way to make the game [deleted] of violators. :)

It breaks multiplayer.
That player needs to be caught in a screenshot shooting you without permission in friendly space....and subsequently BANNED via IP. There may even be something in a profile that never changes (aka not name or IP) which could be used to BAN a player. Their only choice would be to start from scratch, where you'd be superior anyways.

But yeah, we need a total-blind server option, unfortunately. [deleted] gonna be [deleted].
Blinding people from finding enemy humans, and especially allies, REALLY breaks the point of multiplayer....on those servers I've literally had more fun going back to singleplayer. I know it's a market now for people, I'm just glad other servers don't. I don't understand the appeal.

As for people that are violating rules. It is simple. Ban them.

Catch them breaking a rule, if they are shooting at you without your permission ESPECIALLY in friendly space, get a bloody screenshot, send it to any darkstar admin, and he will get banned via his IP.

There's no need to develop entire systems that break the enjoyment of multiplayer because of one person (here's looking at you airport security).

If any system should be made it's a banning tool that doesn't look at IP, but something in a player's profile that's uploaded to the server, not his name, something that doesn't change! and Ban based on that.
Then he/she must make a new profile to break the rules.
It won't be worth the effort.

Coming from a guy who loved hunting humans in disputed space, or asking permission, it was already REALLY hard to do. Now it is broken completely. This isn't ED, there aren't 100 some players on the server, running into humans is VERY rare by chance.
On that server it is 100% broken now, moreso I can't even find allies to do contracts with on a whim, not without spamming the chatbox.

I do understand your concern but this isn't a simple there's a nail here's a hammer simple fix.

I really don't like it when I'm the only person who has to follow the rules. That CS guy doesn't have to follow server rules. I was in undisputed territory and the deathtrap was set as an attempt to troll. Both acts are violations of the server rules listed in the MoD on login. No excuses.

And no double-standards. If CS-[deleted] gets to break the rules, so do we all.

There is a galaxy of difference between server rules and board rules. Everyone who posts here, at this forum, must follow board rules. Server rules are up to the server Admin.

Absolutely. I treat this place like it's Vice's house. His board, his rules. If you go to someone else's house, or use their equipment, you follow their rules just like you would expect them to follow yours in your house or when accessing your equipment. This is just basic civility. Don't be uncivilized, at least not out in public.

Something like that, I would recommend sending the server ADMIN a U2U. Board rules are not the same as server rules. Vice has a set of rules in place for this forum. The server ADMIN's have to follow those rules when they post in here, but they are not required to impose those rules on their servers. Vice treats everyone the same. If a server operator doesn't then that is that server operator's fault, not Vice's.

Yes you have my sympathies in this.
But the moderators here are talking only about forum rules not server rules.

He isn't really my friend and if his butt is covered here it's only because he did nothing wrong in the forums.

You should take your arguments against this individual directly to the server OP.

Noticed this thread recently and decided I'd provide some further information and comments on such matters (as well as an offer to the original poster to help clean up the thread if they so wish).

Server rules can be entirely different from forum rules. Each server operator can enforce their server rules how they see fit, just as the rules here are enforced as moderators see fit. Whether anyone likes them or not, disagrees with them or not, or disagrees with how they are applied or not, doesn't matter. They are in place and are enforced as moderators see fit.

Per rules 3 and 8, any personal grievances anyone has against another player needs to be taken up privately with them. And if the issue is on a particular server, they'll need to take it up with the server operator if they think rules were violated. This forum is not to be used as an attack mechanism against other players, regardless of good or bad behavior as anyone may perceive it.

What matters here are the forum rules. What matters on a server are the server rules.

If someone doesn't like how some players behave in open public online multiplayer and the risks that go along with it, or if they don't like a server's rules that may or may not allow for such things, then they may want to consider playing multiplayer in a more private environment. That way, gameplay is through private servers/LAN among players that trust and enjoy playing with each other. One of the reasons this game has so many gameplay modes and options from single player to LAN and private direct IP to publically listed multiplayer is so players can find a gameplay environment that best suits their preferences, temperaments, and interests.

If the originator of this thread would like the posts pruned to stay within rules and remain on topic, just let a moderator know.

Hi all new to the game, recently got Legacy. I been joining server on and off but seem to get disconnected regularly. I got some help from a few members and enjoying the game. I joined the teamspeak server but no response from admin. Everybody seems to not have access to microphones. Anyhow I would like to get together and meet new friends on teamspeak and enjoy some Evochron Darkstar together.

Happy Gaming

Streetfighter, I noticed that you found the Discord server as well. That is a good place to hang out and find people online and where they might be or if you can get them to join you. I tried @mentioning you there but seemed it didn't pickup on your name. Not sure if that means you unjoined from the Discord server or something.

Where did the server go? It's 1415 CST, March 9th, 2016. Server is down. Is this routine maintenance?

As for the whole "why play blind" debate I missed out on earlier: Why NOT play blind? It isn't hard at all to figure out where people are. Station attack alerts are a giant "HUMAN PLAYERS HERE!" flag, and if you generally hang out in heavily contested areas, you'll run into human players. The fun of it is in tactically finding them. You should also take into account that not everyone on an MP server is there to do PvP at all times. I may want to play PvP now, but an hour from now, I may just want to be left alone to mine resources for base building, or for deep space exploration. I don't want everyone else on the server knowing where I am at all times. Sorta defeats the purpose of even building hidden stations, for one. I don't want to have to play SP just to "Get away from other players", either, because I have a great deal of time and effort built up on the server. If it's not your bag, fine. There are plenty of servers out there offering "Call of Duty: Space Edition" for you, if that's what you need. Some of us want a bit more of a realistic experience in the vast emptiness of the void, where running into someone else is an event, and running into a specific person is a well-orchestrated manuever, and not a haphazard "check the map for red blips to kill" kind of thing.
