[SW III & SW IV] Throttle problem

Post by OSH »

Hi!
First of all. I know, Star Wraith series is discontinued, ancient etc etc. But I want to play it. Both games works fine, but I have one big problem: I can't increase my speed by pressing „+ key. Pressing give no effect. I'm sure, problem is with operating system - I have Windows 7 HP 64-bit. Under XP SP3 32-bit everything works fine. What is weird - game recognizes this key, for example when I try to create a new pilot, and press this key, I see „=", so it works. But after launching mission, this key is blocked. My question is - could someone from you install SW III or IV and test it under Windows 7 64-bit?

The control system in those old games should still work fine under Windows 7. What's probably happened is the throttle control is mapped to a game controller axis, so it is overriding any key control you input. You can test this by switching the control mode to Keyboard or Mouse, then see if the key control then responds. You can also optionally leave the joystick mode on and just unbind the throttle axis control.

Thanks Vice, but none of these methods works. Even when I physically disconnect joystick and set control to keyboard, plus key doesn't work.
I've tested this on all your games (Including EM). Even in EM I can't accelerate with plus key.

Not sure what else it might be then. Are you using a non-English keyboard that might use a different key/scancode for the + key? If you download the joystick configuration test program ( http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmerce ... Config.zip ), you can press and hold any key to view its scancode signal (at the bottom under 'Keyboard Input Signal:'). If that value is something other than 13, then your keyboard is simply returning a signal other than the one you are wanting for that key. With the newer games, you can remap them as you might prefer.

Big thanks Vice for the clue about other non-English keyboard. Yes, I'm using a special Polish keyboard settings. After changing into standard Polish keyboard in Windows 7 throttle works normal. :)
